My budget is £500-£1000

Hi I'm looking for a PC, as I am running FSX on a Laptop (Intel 3 Core is surprisingly ok!). I fly around Heathrow a lot and only get 8-10fps I was wondering what kind of PC I would need to get around 15-20fps. I am not looking at running anything super demanding, only Ultimate terrain X and Ground Environment X with some Aerosoft airbus/PMDG. My budget is around £500-£1000, looking forward to some responses. Plus for the future is ORBX laggy?

Hi Ollie,

The linked PC above is fine.  Here's an example of another I found at Newegg (link) that shows you can get quite a nice desktop for just under your £1000, and the "K" variant of the CPU means you can overclock it for additional performance.  If you are comfortable building your own PC, you might very well source parts like those used for these linked PCs and save a little along the way... and get the satisfaction of building your own computer.  In any event, you will get much better performance with a £1000 desktop than you indicate you're getting with your current laptop.

Keep us updated on what you decide.

Wow thanks guys the PC Charlatan linked looks really good, but the PC dmiannay is sadly unavailable in the UK. I am looking at a pre-built one then in the future teach my self how to overclock (sounds tricky) and add more components. It's good the PC's you guys recommended at not that much over £1000, as that is my maximum budget. with the PC Charlatan recommend will it run smoothly with PMDG etc?

It will run PMDG fine, obviously with some of the sliders down a touch.  Rjfry is correct, Scan do a good unit, but for the same spec is £200 more expensive.  It's as good as you will get for the dough

You will be happy with that PC.  You will get 35+ fps probably, not only 15-20 (as you said you wanted initially).  I get about 35 in a PC not quite as good as that and running Prepar3D.  @ols500 have you considered moving to Prepar3D from FSX?  The Academic Version is only $60.  Also, what version of FSX do you currently use?  Steam Edition or Boxed?

Hi Caleb1,

I have FSX boxed Deluxe edition. I want to get P3D in the future but I am waiting for all my add-ons to be compatible, including AES.

I see.  Have you considered getting FSX Steam Edition?  Graphics are largely better than deluxe and Steam Edition is available for only $24.95 USD.  Very affordable in my opinion.  System requirements are very similar to those of FSX:Deluxe Edition.

Yes, I do have steam edition, but I have heard problems of compatibility with default  FSX add-ons.

The only (very rare) issues with compatibility tend to be with very old add-ons. I have a lot of 3rd party products and have yet to find one that isn't compatible.
