Hello,

Looking for some assistance with an issue I just cant seem to quite figure out. In the first two screenshots below, I've circled/pointed to the areas of issue and essentially certain textures and areas such as runways are not very smooth on the edging and are jagged/staired. The only somewhat fix I have found is turning on FXAA within P3D but then virtual cockpit issues with blurring occur. I've tried everything I can think of from specific P3D/Nvidia Control Panel/Nvidia Inspector tweaks but nothing seems to really work well. If you check the 3rd screenshot, the issue doesn't appear to really effect the aircraft or anything close up/zoomed but rather distant textures.Any Assistance will be greatly appreciated and specs/info are below.

 

CPU: Intel i7-8700k overclocked to 5.1GHz with hyperthreading off (Liquid Cooling).
GPU: I have been testing between a GTX 1080 8GB, GTX Titan X, and my new recent GPU being the new GTX Titan V. (Currently on driver 398.11, but have tested several of the other common versions but no noticeable change)
Ram: 32GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB DDR4-3200
HD: Samsung 960 Pro NVMe M.2 SSD
Monitor: Asus VGA248QE Gaming Monitor (Have Tested with all refresh rates with no difference). Also have tested with an OMEN by HP 25 Gaming Monitor with no difference.
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit 1803 build 17134.112

Sim: Prepar3D 4.2 (Latest with all simconnect installations)
P3D Config Tweaks: AffinityMask at 15, FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.10, OPAQUE_SHADOW_TEXTURE_SIZE=4096, and TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=9. Entire file will be at very bottom as well as screenshots of preset settings.

I should also say that each time I switched GPUs, changed drivers, or made any big changes, I used the Nvidia DDU Utility in Safe Mode to remove drivers then reinstalled as a clean install. I also deleted the shader cache and every so often ill do the scenery cache as well. Using 4xSSAA is about as far as you can push antialiasing in P3D before getting a pretty hard hit on performance. In my experience in FSX, I enjoyed flying with 8XSSAA, but as I say, in P3D at that setting it is too high. Try it though and you will see an improvement on the jaggies.

Yeah I agree with you. In my experience with 8XSSAA, clouds absolutely killed the GPU with ease. I havent tried it on the new GPU (Titan V) so perhaps with how much more powerful it is, it could work. Ill test and advise the results.

Ditch nvidia inspector and enable DSR. Before I went to 4K thats what I had to use to get rid of jaggies, DSR will also allow you to back off the AA in the sim.

Dude!? I was running stronger settings with my Haswell/1070.  :-)

 

Anyway, I run in game 8X MSAA with Inspector transparency at 4xSGS

 

My Nvidia control panels are totally default.

Inspector settings: global are all default / Prepared v4.2 are all default less the following:

-AA transparency SuperSampling ""4xSGS""

-texture filtering filtering-negative LOD bias  ""clamped""

-texture filtering - quality  ''high quality"'

-power management mode  ""max performance""

-multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration  ""single display mode""

Try withouth Affinity Mask tweak. This will allways cause blurries with my CPU. Correct Affinity Mask for your CPU with HT off would be 62, not 15 BTW. It may work with yours, but try to start with clean CFG - rebuild it(delete it), so no tweaks are applied. Also, if you want to use TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=9, you need to set HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=1. This could cause the problems. 

Not related to your problem, but you should try to set monitor refresh rate to 30 with unlimited fps and Vsync and triple buffering enabled. With higher monitor refresh rates, just limit your fps to lower value, like 30. This for better texture loading.

+1 for DSR. It looks much better then using nvidia inspector SGSS. I tried DSR to 4K and it's much better. But i needed to reduce clouds resolution with my 1060 6GB GPU, works nice now

I have one monitor connected to the GPU and the other connected into the MOBO which utilizes the intel graphics. In the settings, I am sure to have the GPU selected. Im testing now with said information above.

DSR is a new on me.  How are you using this in P3D if P3D is not running in true full screen?   I tried it, but not sure if I was doing it right.  Didn't make much of a difference, so I'm sure I was not doing it right.

You need to enable DSR in Nvidia Control Panel first, and after that there are two ways:

- you can set new higher resolution in P3D Display options, but this is going to work only in fullscreen mode(even if not the true fullscreen). Try switching between full and windowed using ALT+Enter, there should be a difference in quality, it makes a huge difference with my monitor. 

- the second way is leave default resolution in P3D, and change your monitor resolution. Right click on deskop and select "screen resolution". The all icons and text can be really small after that, so i'm using this tool: https://github.com/djhmateer/sharedTools/blob/master/HRC_-_HotKey_Resolution_Changer_v2_1.exe/HRC.exe 

With HRC, you can assign any keyboard key to switch resolutions. I'm switching to 4K only with P3D

Ok, i noticed one more thing, you have some settings applied in Nvidia Inspector and in P3D. Try to set them in P3D only and reset Nvidia Inspector to default. I'm using only "prefer maximum performance" and "high quality" in NCP.

I appreciate it.  I'll have to try this at some point and see if there is any benefit on my system.
