August 22, 20187 yr Hi guys, I've bought GTN750 for X-plane 11, but i saw the navigation data is outdated. How to keep it update ?
August 22, 20187 yr You can't. The GTN is driven by the Garmin Trainer. Unless Garmin issue an updated Trainer, or you have a friend with a used real world subscription, it can't be done as yet. Same with the competitor's version as well. David Porrett

But is there an alternative to update it ? I have Navigraph subscription, can i use it to update my GTN 750 airac ?

August 25, 20187 yr Please note a new GTN Trainer v6.50 is available since a couple days. We are working on it, so don't download it yet otherwise you'll loose your GTN It looks like there might be updated DB included with it!
August 25, 20187 yr Ok downloaded and installed the new version of the gtn trainer. A twitch streamer told me it worked for him and got new version of the database also. But I get a blank screen inside xplane. Guess have to check here first next time. Hope you have an update out soon because i love my GTN750 ;-)
August 25, 20187 yr Unfortunately, no nav data provider like Navigraph will ever be able to offer database updates for any FS emulation of the GNS 430/530 or GTN 650/750 that is based on the corresponding Garmin trainer. The Garmin database files are proprietary and encrypted. They can’t be reverse engineered, and no reputable FS nav data provider would attempt to do so. It is possible to update the trainer’s nav data using official Garmin or Jeppesen files for the actual unit, but one has to be a registered owner of a GNS or GTN to subscribe to updates, and a subscription is extremely expensive. The only practical solution would be to obtain an expired database card from an actual aircraft owner - and that would pretty much be a one-off solution. For most of us, the only way to get a newer version of the database is to wait for Garmin to release a new version of the trainer, and then wait for RealityXP or Navigraph to update their products to be compatible with the latest trainer version. As a matter of fact, prior v6.21, Garmin used to update the GTN trainer regularly about every 6 months with a new DB. Since v6.21, they have been shipping the same DB up to v6.41.1 included. Now, the latest GTN 6.50 includes a newer DB, cycle 1803! Once we're done with the update (crossing fingers), it will be good to use. Alternatively, you can also extract the 1803 DB from the TXI iPad app .ipa file... Edited August 26, 20187 yr by RXP

I hope you guys can eventually come up with some kind of option for us simmers to be able to keep our DB updated like we do with Navigraph. I just submitted a refund request over at F1 for their GTN Complete due to the DB being so out of date and was missing several SID's for multiple airports I fly to and from. Will it be possible to install the new GTN trainer version over the top of 6.41 or should we uninstall 6.41 and then reinstall 6.50?

I've some ideas I want to explore before drawing any definitive conclusion, but there is only so much we can do everyday! Nevertheless, to my knowledge, only the Reality XP GTN supports GTN trainer v6.41.1 and v.6.41.0, and hopefully soon the GTN trainer v6.50 with its new VNAV capability, and its DB cycle 1803! It will be very easy: just launch the trainer aviation launcher, click 'about', check updates, and let it download and install. Otherwise, downloading and installing the standalone installer over the existing should work, otherwise, I'm sure the installer will prompt you to uninstall the older first. Please note: our GTN product is not compatible yet with the GTN trainer v6.50, we are working on this.

Is the GTN Trainer designed for both RXP and F1 GTN's? Wolfy The Garmin Trainer is produced by Garmin themselves. It’s intended first and foremost as a training aid for real-world pilots who already have Garmin GNS/GTN units in their airplanes, or who are considering installing them. Garmin permits the trainer to be used as the core of FS add-ons like the Reality XP and F1 GNS/GTN. It’s a good business decision, because it is basically free advertising for their products, and they undoubtedly recognize that at least some simmers who use the RXP or F1 emulations are r/w licensed pilots who may decide to purchase the real thing based on their experience with the simulated versions. The problem regarding monthly updates is that the Trainer uses exactly the same database files as the real GNS/GTN units. If anyone distributed current databases compatible with the trainer for flight simulation use, there would be nothing to prevent someone from loading them onto the SIM card used by a real GNS or GTN in a real airplane. For that reason, even when a new version of the Trainer is released by Garmin, it never contains the current Nav database - it’s always going to be at least a few months out-of-date. FAA regulations require r/w pilots to only use current Nav data - (at least when flying on an IFR flight plan). But, as the post in this thread from RXP pointed out, Garmin has been releasing new Trainer versions on a fairly regular basis. The latest Trainer will never have the most-current Nav data, but it won’t be extremely outdated either. If a way could be found to make Nav updates compatible with the Trainer, but incompatible with a real Garmin GNS or GTN, that would probably be the only solution. Doing so would probably require the active cooperation of Garmin.
