B55 Baron FDE update released on MilViz Support Site.

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Just a heads up - Wells Sullivan - released a new update for the B55 Baron...

As per Wells:

An update has been posted in the Milviz B55 support forum. If you don't have access, contact Oisin and he'll hook you up!

Changes

- Corrected weight and balance for 6 seat configuration

- Corrected engine power output and fuel consumption for given power setting ( power and fuel consumption were high )

- Corrected cruise speeds for a given power setting ( the airplane was 5-10 knots fast )

 - Changed the zero lift angle of the wing by 1° and raised the viewpoint by 1.2 inches

- Added a bunch of extra internal and external views

Regards,
Scott

Sweet!  How do I contact Oisin, btw?

Ahh....nevermind, I found his email address at the Milviz site.  Looking forward to getting this update.

Just go to the "Official" B-55 support forum on the Milviz forum website. You can download the FDE update there.

Thanks, but I don't see and Official B-55 support forum there, probably because I haven't yet registered for that forum.  I've sent Oisin a request.

He can set you up so that you have access to the official support forum. Just need to send him a proof of purchase. That's what I did when I purchased the Twin Comanche.

Go to the official Milviz website.

--Support Forums

--B-55 Support Forum

--Under the "Topics" Section you will find "Flight Dynamics Update November 2018" (second down from the top). Mouse click on that.

--Within the Attachment box you will find the download link. Mouse click on that link and you're home.

Hope this helps.

Are these updated files for both B-55 models? If not, which one does the files apply to?

Thanks

raymie,  If I'm not mistaken, the update is for the B55 only, not the E55.

Hi Folks,

I won't have a chance to look until I get in this weekend...

I would assume Stew is correct as MilViz has already stated they are dropping the E model FDE completely - which is probably good as the actual model represented in the sim is the B model - - - the E model is considerably different...

Scott

If anyone can post a link it would be helpful.

If you're not officially signed up for that (B55) support forum, no link is available.

The new update features a new b55_8.air.  How does the sim know to use this file and not the older b55_7.air?  Just curious that we didn't have to make any changes in this regard.

Stew,

The new aircraft.cfg will call this new b55_8.air file, make sure you make a backup copy of the original .cfg in case you don't like this new FDE?

Cheers

Thanks, Martin.  I thought as much, but didn't know for sure.  Already made a backup and made a short flight from KPAO Palo Alto to KSBP San Luis Obispo.  I can't comment one way or the other about the new FDE--I just don't know enough to judge honestly, but I've always liked the airplane.  And Ron Atwood's paint for N286D is very nice.

Cheers!

Stew

Anyone have a handle on how many lines in the aircraft.cfg file changed?  I have so much customization with multiple custom liveries and custom panel configurations that it might be easier to edit my current ,cfg file than to edit the new one....

Frank,  Maybe compare the two side-by-side?  I noticed a few lines that had been rem'd out and replaced.  I'm still not sure how the new aircraft.cfg reads the new b55_8.air, since I saw no reference to it there.  Your customized aircraft.cfg may not pick up the new .air file.  Maybe Wells will have to weigh in here eventually and point out the changes.

" I'm still not sure how the new aircraft.cfg reads the new b55_8.air, since I saw no reference to it there."

All you need in the .cfg file is on the third line "sim=b55_8", this is where it reads the FDE file. I suspect there are not that many chances in the new .cfg file, but important ones that go with the new FDE so make sure you transfer those values over.

Hi Folks,

OK - I did some testing last night on the new FDE - on approach - default load - 90 KIAS - Full Flaps - 500 FPM decent rate - I'm seeing a pitch up attitude of 5 to 6 degrees - now I don't have much experience in twins - so this is a novices humble opinion and I stand ready to be corrected - but I don't think it should be pitched up so much under these conditions... I greatly appreciate Wells effort and it seems to behave better than the initial FDE.. I'll continue to test it a bit further and I look forward to input from twin guys who have more experience than I...

Regards,
Scott
