August 16, 200619 yr >Maybe the real purpose of the public beta is to sell the>product and not so much to fix bugs? The FS community is>pretty large with several hundred if not thousands of forums. >With a large scale public beta about 4 to 6 weeks from release>would do a wonderful job of presenting the product. Much>better then MS can do with its resources alone. Is this a marketing trick more than a true "beta"? -- YesDoes this give you the unique opportunity to "try out" FSX in what is effectively a full "demo" before its even released? -- YesIs the whole thing a big conspiracy to take your $16 and never provide a beta to anyone? -- No - MS and Fileplanet have their credibility at stake... Be pateient. Will just about everyone be "picked" that signed up? -- Yes (based on my previous experiences with previous public "beta tests")Have they broken the law? -- NoWere you ever GUARANTEED to participate even after spending $16? - NOPEDo you need to lighten up and be patient? - YESBrew
August 17, 200619 yr Author I wonder if Fileplanet will let us know when it's due beforehand or if we'll find out at the time it's released. What normally happens with these sort of things?
August 17, 200619 yr Fileplanet said the beta will start in a few days, that means 2-3 days where i come from. I didnt happen, its been 2 weeks now, i predict the beta will be out for us all in October :-xxrotflmao.
August 17, 200619 yr I am trying to stay optimistic until tomorrow evening. By then all the rumors of it being released this week will be exhausted. Doing some deep googling I see many many upset people over this. The biggest complaint is not so much to do with the delay itself or even fileplanet taking your $16 but the total lack of information. Some have contacted fileplanet and were told that the email responses "If Selected" should be coming in a couple of days. This was late last week. So we must ask ourselves if this beta has already come and gone and we just did not get selected? Yeah a rejection letter would be nice and professional but things don't work that way now days. I suppose the big clue that it has not started is the sign up page is still active for the beta. http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/flight%5Fsimx/I guess I need to learn to trust my instincts better. I said when I signed up "An advanced beta of FSX for $16 with a fileplanet subscription...YEAH RIGHT!!!". You know the old saying "if its too good to be true its probably not true"? Well I believe that applies in full force here.

Nothing I have heard suggests a definite start date. It is very unfortunate that Fileplanet decided to say "in just a few more days" when a few days was clearly wrong. It is even more unfortunate that they continue to say "in just a few more days". I know that it will come but not necessarily "in just a few more days".
August 17, 200619 yr >I wonder if Fileplanet will let us know when it's due>beforehand or if we'll find out at the time it's released.>What normally happens with these sort of things?Normally they just come out, I think and you get an email.
August 17, 200619 yr You would think they would have edited "in just a few more days" so it says "Coming soon" by now.Perhaps that page is not even supposed to be active now but the net guys at fileplanet are on vacation. If the companies I deal with at work are any indication these guys tend to only work 1 day a week and then gone the next 3 weeks. I have seen some huge mistakes made on web pages and when you try to get them fixed so and so is on a 3 week vacation.
August 17, 200619 yr Author >Perhaps that page is not even supposed to be active now but>the net guys at fileplanet are on vacation. The link on the page still allows you to go to the actual sign up page so it's not just that particular page.
August 18, 200619 yr Getting close now. I have no idea how FP distributes their stuff but some of you should (hopefully) be very happy in a day or so. (But for gosh sake, don't tell anyone else!)
August 18, 200619 yr >If someone can guarentee we will be 'selected' I will pay.I hear what your saying and I can say I feel the same way, if I were guaranteed to be a beta tester I would pay. But I think the answer is pretty simple for guys like us... since there is no guarantee, we won't be paying.
