Mission Ideas and Wishlist

Featured Replies

Good morning class.I did a search and although there were a decent number of topics that refer to mission editing, there didn't seem to be a collected topic to post your ideas for what you want to fan community to create. I plan on making a lot of missions, as I've stated in a few of the other threads, but I only have my own ideas, and I'd love to hear what sort of adventure or procedural challenges you'd like to see put out. Also, as a short introduction, since I'm still somewhat new, I'm Brian, a 26 year old (yeah, I know, a young one) web developer and enthusiastic VFR simmer. I've also been involved in several mod projects for other games, and a few larger machinima projects.I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say.

Hurricane Hunter Mission - since (from what I hear) the weather system is tied in and operational with the mission system, we can have visuals as well as the effects of a hurricane!

Ok, now that's a great idea.I had a thought of a storm chaser, but that's a better idea. No idea if you can get tornadoes in FSX, is there?

1. mid air refuelling in bad weather2. hurricane food drops3. skydive into the stadium4. perform a barrel roll under the harbour bridge5. find the lost boatie at sea6. police car chase in a chopper7. volcano eruption rescue8. rescue workers from a burning building9. escort Air Force One to a safe landing in Iraq10. fly Trump to the meeting in time or get fired

>No idea if you can get tornadoes in FSX, is there? No idea. I would think many things are possible though! We'll see when it comes out. Many possibilities may be rules out depending on how strict the mission editor and system are. For example, if only one mission is allowed to run at any one time, this will of course limit what can or cannot be done or mixed in from other creators, etc.EDIT - For example, let's say I write a mission that the only thing it does is shut down both engines if you overspeed. (not realitic I know but just for examples sake). Then YOU write a mission that restarts the engines if they are not running and the speed of the aircraft is found to be BELOW overspeed values. Can both missions run concurrently? Probably not... Also, how many "details" i.e. factors will be available for us to test for? Will we be limited to only weather factors, maybe speed of aircraft, altitude, and lat lon? Or does it go deeper like we have values for thrust % on engine 1, oil temp on eng 2, etc.? WE WILL SEE IN JUST A FEW MONTHS!

WE WILL SEE IN JUST A FEW MONTHS!>I'm assuming that when they say it is comparable to other game editors that you will have a simple conditional trigger system. While you may not be able to have two missions running at the same time, I am assuming that the logical process will allow you to turn on one trigger by firing another. So what would happen is that if the trigger to turn off the engines (i.e. your airspeed crosses a threshold) that trigger would shut down the engines AND turn on another trigger, that fires if your speed drops below the threshold to turn the engines back on.Not two missions, just multiple conditionals that activate each other in a logical manner. The would not be much different than the way other games do it.For example: You enter room. That sets off trigger that locks doors and releases the level Boss into room. This activates another trigger that says "When Boss dies, unlock doors".Also, if they did it correctly (and by correctly, I mean the way I would prefer it was done :( ) there's not just a list of X amount of variables to track, but that you can set the scripting up to track anything that the game tracks. That's my hope.

Man, that's exactly what I was looking for.Especially that police mission. We know from the mission where you racing the Jet Truck thing that you can script ground vehicles. I've got plenty of simple ones too, along the lines of medivac to the hospital after landing on the highway or "You're flying to meet your big date, and she said she'd meet you at the airport next to the runway, but she didn't say which runway. Now you have to get between the couple of local fields in the area to find her before she gets bored and goes home".Of course, then my mind gets all crazy like, with scenarios like the movie "Executive Decision", where you actually have to get close enough to simulate "docking" the Stealth Bomber to the underside of the jet.

CMI Flight 956 - PGUM - PTKK - PTPN - PTSA - PKWA - PKMJ - PHNL - B737-800 - on time - all visual landings - ILS only on Guam and Honolulu - legal fuel and weight requirements

I'd need very precise documentation of the conditions of this flight (schedule and what the legal fuel and weight requirements are) to be able to do this. I'm happy if I can get a jet on the runway properly most of the time.

I'd like to see a series of missions called "real life emergencies". Have all the pilot's submit real world emergencies they have had-which are usually unpredictable, and require some problem solving. Set up the identical experience in FS-what a valuable tool this could be!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

It would be even more fun in the B727 combi and the runways crushed coral gravel - like it was when I flew as a pax back in '73.The "mission" could probably be done now as a series of FS9 flights - but we need a way to score points - which I am guessing will be a big part of the FSX mission system. To be able to say - I flew misson xxxx and got a score of xxxx.We can compare - or we can go back and try to do better. This flight is what I personally consider one of the world's real challenges - and with the great DBWSim scenery for the islands - an interesting series. The flight is about 3,800 nm long on direct paths. The legs are:PGUM-PTKK - 550PTKK-PTPN - 380PTPN-PTSA - 300PTSA-PKWA - 350PKWA-PKMJ - 235PKMJ-PHNL - 1,975Though you could break the final leg with a stop at Johnston Island as the flight used to do when that was an active base - 1,200 nm and 775 nm legs. There is fuel at PKWA if needed, and PKMJ as the main stop. There is limited fuel at the other airports. I remember seeing them fueling the 727 from 55 gal drums with pumps run by a tractor PTO.Alternates are non-existant - if the weather is too bad to land at one airport due to a squall - you have to go past to the next destination. The runways are 5,800 to 6,200 ft long at PTKK, PTSA, PTPN. The weight limits are 152,000 for PTSA, and 170,000 for PTPN, 171,000 for PKMJ, 176,000 for PTKK, 205,000 for PKWA for that type aircraft. Nice photos and info on www.airnav.com.There is an NDB and a DME on each island - no VOR. Navigation is at a premium, or was before GPS.However there are potentials for severe navigational issues if your plane drifts north into the Pacific Missle Test Range between PKWA and it's restricted sites at PKRO and PKMA.At PKWA and PJON - the pax and FA will not be allowed to exit the aircraft - so it's a quick turnaround. They are closed US military reservations.I hope it's no longer the case - but back in the 70's the aircraft overflew the runway at about 250 ft agl to scare off the water buffalo before coming around for landing. They loved to graze on the grass right beside the runway.

That sounds like a really amazing series of flights. Now, if you really want to talk about a wishlist, how about control of placement of animals? Like for sightseeing tours. Then I could put your buffalo on the runway and force the fly over.

How about pipeline patrol? The other day I saw a Cessna 182 doing pipeline patrol. Zooming a couple hundred feet above the ground looks like fun. Maybe have a beat the clock type of thing, or something like that.

Or maybe there's something you might find, but due to a radio outage, you have to make it back to your base field to report the problem before it gets worse. With the snow landings, you might even drop a guy off to give to you updates as you race back to your landing strip. Then again, I don't know what a pipeline patrol is looking for. Leaks? Is that about it?

>>Then again, I don't know what a pipeline patrol is looking>for. Leaks? Is that about it?Yeah I guess leaks and damage.
