ILS landing impossible at EHRD

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm not able to catch the LOC/GS at EHRD with the Qualitywings 787 and the FSLabs A319.

With the PMDG 737 NGX its working though.

I have tried it with the standard P3D v4.3 scenery and the aerosoft Rotterdam X scenery.

The ILS frequency that I'm using for runway 24 is 110.90

I have not updated the airac cycle on any of the planes since I bought them. But I would suppose that the airac cycle on the 787 and the A319 are newer.

Nevertheless they are not able to autoland.

Does someone have an idea?

Thanks!

Best regards Andreas

A quick look at the navigraph chart says 110.9 but P3D will always use it's own database even if you update P3D to the latest cycle it may not have the absolute latest frequencies.

For example, load LNM and make sure under the scenery library tab that P3D (or whatever sim) is selected and under navigraph cycle 1901 - use navigraph for all features, this will show 110.9 which is in the latest cycle but if you select use navigraph for navaids and procedures. Then this will show the P3D frequencies for which EHRD has 108.30.

A rule for me is that P3D will always overrule any other data (well for me anyway)

Navigraph will only update the gauges on the aircraft. To update the sim database itself one needs to also purchase a subscription to fsaerodata. People don't often notice the descrepancy between the aircraft and sim navigation databases because many database entries haven't changed over time. But a good number have changed and unless one flies only between recently updated payware airports, these discrepancies arise from time to time.

Hi, so would you recommend updating the sim?

In order to upgrade airport ILS frequencies and headings, one needs to update the individual airport AFCADS. The reason the PMDG works and not the other, PMDG has the ability to read the default afcad. The QW and AS uses the Navagragh data. That make sense?

It depends. If one has a lot of high quality payware airports then updating the sim's database will only improve the rest of the airports. Keep in mind also that if an airport's runway configuration has changed in real life, just updating the sim's navigation database will not fix that inconsistency. Only editing the airport with Airport Design Editor will fix that.

Also, updating the sim's database is more beneficial if one is using a 3rd party ATC add-on. The default sim ATC does not use SIDs and STARs.

I had a problem landing at EHRD a few days ago. I have Aerosoft Rotterdam and installed it with the unofficial patch for P3D v4. I was trying to land on the ILS for rwy 24. The documentation that comes with the scenery explains that the ILS frequencies for both runways have been changed to 111.9 to avoid a conflict with the nearby Valkenburg air base. I was flying Flight1's King Air, I have a subscription to Navigraph with the latest AIRAC, and I also have a subscription to fsAerodata which was also up to date. The King Air's navaid database is updated with every AIRAC. My plane would not recognise 111.9. I tried the real life 110.9, but that didn't work either. I was forced to try to land manually in foggy conditions with a clouds OVC at 200 ft!!

According to Navigraph's charts the correct frequencies are 110.9 for 24 (identifier RSV) and 109.1 for 06 (identifier ROS). These are also the frequencies showing for EHRD on the King Air's G1000. However if you open the P3D map window you will find that the frequency for 06 is as per the charts, but the frequency for 24 is 108.3 (identifier RD). The G1000 finds this frequency immediately.

I really don't understand what's going on here. The published frequencies for the scenery don't work, and neither does the real life frequency for 24. Where does the frequency 108.3 come from?

Cheers.

Adrian

I don't have this Aerosoft scenery installed so I can only speculate, but what is important to understand is that no matter what Navigraph or fsaerodata sbscription you have, these files DO NOT affect third party sceneries. The frequencies, be it comm or nav, are hard-coded into the AFCAD of an airport, and third party airports come with their own AFCADs that block lower priority (e.g. P3D default) AFCAD. Navigraph and fsaerodata do NOT change this. Navigraph only updates the databases that provide information for the gauges of your plane, while fsaerodata only affects default P3D airports. As such, Aerosoft's scenery might simply have a different ILS coded in its AFCAD. To confirm this, I recommend downloading Little NavMap, a freeware moving map tool that can load your scenery databases. If you then display EHRD and look at the Runways you should be able to see information about the ILS frequencies, and you will have your answer.

It is, however, easy to change frequencies. For this you need to download Airport Design Editor (ADE), which allows you to load an AFCAD file and change any number of things about it. Thus you could manually correct anything that is incorrect or outdated, recompile the AFCAD and load it in the sim.

That is not correct. If either Hervé Sors, fsaerodata or one's own modified airport BGL file is set at higher priority than the third party scenery, those options will override navigation aids.

Obviously, but this depends on priority in the scenery library. The actual scenery itself will not be affected.
