My "pauses" or stutters fixed!

Have you reported it to L-M? You would need to fly a default aircraft with no 3rd party scenery or other addons. If it can be replicated that way it’s a bug in their code. Otherwise it’s a bug in a third party addon which is not the fault of L-M of course. And finding the package responsible could take a while.

Are you up for it Sherlock? 😁

Right Dr Watson. 🤔

Cannot quite recall whose scenery it was, or whether it was  generic scenery, or what, but it was something that immediately triggered that ntdll.dll to cause a CTD to a  Virgin Atlantic 747-400 replicating the route from EGCC to Orlando that particular waypoint in that scenery that was causing the issue. Don't think I tried an L-M  default aircraft because no L-M default aircraft has that range, has it. But those are distant memories now. Currently speaking, I could never have envisaged that one day, long on from FS5, I'd have a sim that was smooth sailing---forgive the choice of word---all the way, including the latest CS757-200 v3, except for minor glitches like airport gates or runway lights or fuel trucks colliding with staircases or loaders😀

Please be specific. If you fly the PMDG737NGX you will get a 7-10 sec pause whilst the save takes place. It isn’t a stutter. It’s a pause and very noticeable.

Ray,

That is odd.  I fly 737NGX all the time with autosave enabled, every 5 minutes save, with only 1 kept, and never observe more than a fraction of a second pause at save points.  Maybe its the cleanup?

Kyle, your sig doesn’t include your sim but I presume it’s P3D v4.4.

I’ll make my Autosave the same tomorrow and see what happens. I previously had it set for 2 mins and 10 kept. What cleanup are you talking about?

I doubt it's the cleanup. I use separate autosave functionality (without multiple savepoints/cleanup) in simFDR and Delta Virtual's ACARS and one gets a pause, unless one excludes the P3D process and one's data directory from Windows Defender.

Cheers!

Yes, I am using v4.4.  The cleanup is just the function that FSUIPC uses to delete the old saves whence the number is reached.  Probably not a factor, but never know.  Luke mentions Defender, which I am not using since I use ESET anti-virus.

Thanks. All I can do is replicate your settings and see what happens. I’d be surprised if the cleanup caused an issue.

I disagree. My PC is well configured and performing brilliantly.

Flying a simple aircraft like Carenado PC-12 or Xtreme Solutions Learjet 25 I never had a problem with AutoSave.

But the PMDG has a lot of systems and all that needs saving. You can't blame FSUIPC for taking so long to save. It's simply using the inbuilt Save Scenario feature.

If you want complexity that's the price you have to pay. As someone else said the occasional manual save is probably a good compromise.

Ray, I respectfully have to disagree with you, firmly. On my PC (using a 4 core i5 3570k from 2012, mind you) the PMDG 777, 737, and 747 all take less than one second during an autosave. The Aerosoft A31x/A32x, Majestic Q400, and TFDi 717 also all take less than one second. I can take some footage if you like.

What are your Autosave settings? Perhaps those make a difference. I’m testing tomorrow.

Are you excluding both the process and the directories it is writing to? The software may be different, but the principle is the same.

Cheers!

Ray,

FYI, I just did a quick experiment with my setup, and tried various autosave settings, and didn't see a pause more than a fraction of a second.  I flew out of KSEA northbound with PMDG 737NG heading hold 340/alt hold 5000/speed 230 kts to force lotsa scenery loading.  I set autosave to every 10 seconds and kept 10--had quick stutter on each save but no perceivable pause.  Then I set to keep just one to force cleanup frequently and no difference at all.  This was using Orbx PNW and Drzwieki Seattle Airports.

Luke,

Yes I am excluding the entire P3D application folder, so the anti-virus should be a non-factor here. I am having similar experience to what you are seeing.

Tried Autosave every 3 mins with 2 saved. Still get 8 second pause every 3 minutes. Fail to understand how others cannot have this problem with the same aircraft in the same sim.

No point further testing. Autosave is off. Fortunately my sim is very stable so not really a problem.

Ray, are you certain you've disabled the anti-virus from checking either the P3D process or the My Documents folder? I'm 99% convinced it's related to software outside the sim.

Cheers!

Luke, I only had Prepar3D.exe excluded in Defender. I've now changed that to the whole P3Dv4 folder structure plus My Documents. I'll see how I get on with that, thanks.

I didn’t notice any long pause but I only had it set for 1 save. I’ve increased it to 3 now and will check tomorrow. The settings in Defender look to be crucial.

Ray, that's what my post was all about. Glad it fixed it for you as well.
