MSFT, please don't release FSX too early

First off, thank you ACES so much for the beta demo, so we could play a little, and maybe contribute to the beta process. As we know, the demo was released, with lot's of bugs and all, probably as a nice favor to us lunatics! One thing that gaming (okay simulation) software publishers have received is a deservedly bad rap for releasing unpolished, unfinished software due to perceived (real or otherwise) deadlines.I'm not sure what verision of the code (or how old is was) when the demo was developed, but unless you guys are miracle workers, it seems to me that it would be extremely difficult to make a "gold" date of somewhere in early to mid September to hit the October 3rd release date. I don't have any insight into the development community, this is just an educated guess looking at the state of the demo. Maybe great progress has made since code used for the demo was developed. My point is, as impatient as we are, please try to attack every known bug and performance issue you can humanly address before sending it out the door. Performance being the key word here (can't wait for DX10). We will whine a moan for a while if it's not here on "time", but will get over it, and never remember a year from now anyway. Yes, I know you have to have it on the shelves before Christmas, no doubt. But none of us will wait to open it till then anyway! :)Good luck and thanks for all your hard work.Brian S.

Absolutly right. If most bugs/errors aren't fixed before release, we will whine as never seen before (:D). A big problem is if the ACES team will use the DX10 patch as a "bugfixer" and "time gainer". If errors can't be fixed before release (3rd October), then don't release imo....

I agree. I could wait until x-mas or even later if that's what it takes. Not that I am down on the demo--in fact I think it's great. I am optimistic though...I know that demo was beta code.Rhett

I also second that. I would completely prefer to have it later with everything tip-top, than before with issues... And yeah, we will moan here and there, but its just moaning, don't pay any attention to us :-)

Hopefully frequent updates will be forthcoming (i.e. like the FS9.1 patch). If so, then roll it out! I imagine the bulk of the DVD content is scenery/textures. The actual executable stuff (if like FS9) should be relatively small and a reasonable download.

After running the demo all I can say is "I WANT IT NOW!". Love it! :-) :-) :-)

HiI love it too, with a PC upgrade (3 yrs old) and a polished final version, FSX will rock. Thanks ACES team.Helmut

Brian (and others),I have to respectfully disagree. Box it up and ship it ACES! Great job and thanks for your hard work on FSX (thanks to your beta team members too!!). (I'm sure that final process is occurring right now based on reports it will be released in October). The demo was only provided (IMHO) for many of us to get a taste of the new product and not to provide us an opportunity to beta test and find bugs, etc. The readme provided with the demo fully states the demo is filled with bugs. Additionally, a member of the ACES team (Taildragger) has so stated in his blog. I am pretty confident the beta team has found most of the bugs and they will be fixed (probably already fixed) before the product is shipped. Will there be issues with FSX after it is released? Definitely. Will it run smoothly on everyone's system? Absolutely not. Will there be CTD's, ATC.dll, terrain.dll, etc., type crashes? I hope not but yes they will probably happen occasionally. To delay it any further based on rumors of old code, etc., is insane (again IMHO) and I trust the beta testers and the ACES team to provide an outstanding product. I doubt anyone will be really happy with FSX after its release until VISTA and DX10 have been released, and they upgrade to new video cards that support Shader 3.0 and DX10 products. I look forward to the freeware and payware that will be developed to make FSX another outstanding flight simulator! I remember FS9 had the same thoughts prior to its release and not many thought it was ready (in fact I have read many simmers still have FS2K2 installed and are not ready to upgrade to FS9). So, let's don't delay it any longer. I look forward to picking up my "free" copy at the AVSIM convention next month.Best regards,JimYoung

I agree with you Jim. MS will not ship an overly buggy product, especially this anniversary release. (remember ALL SOFTWARE HAS BUGS/FEATURES...it's just what is "acceptable")I trust MS's biz sense.bt
