July 25, 200619 yr Since the last post was hijacked by a different kind of terrorist. I thought I would ask another question. With this partnership, will we see the end of Ultimate Terrain and other such add-ons? Mike Keigley
July 25, 200619 yr We'll have to see. History has shown, though, that with each new version of FS the bar moves higher and the addons just get better. No reason to think this version would be any different.Dave________________________________________AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego @ 2.6MhzNForce4-A939 mobo 1G FSB2x1G Cosair XMS Ram on dual channelsSapphire Radeon X1900XT Video Card @ XTX23" Apple Cinema Display @ 1920X1200Soundblaster Live24Saitek Cyborg EVO TrackIR4

I am sure that even higher quality scenery would be possible, but at what cost?Chris Porter:-outtaPerthWestern Australia Core i7 3820 | Asus P9X79-DELUX SLI M/b | 32GB Corsair DDR3 1600Mhz RAM | DeepCool Gemmaxx CoolernVidia GTX580 1536MB GDDR3 Video | ASUS MW221u 21" WS LCD2 x Kingston V300 240gb SSD RAID for OS and FSX | 2 x Seagate Barracuda 1Tb SATA HD's in RAID | 1 x 1Tb ext b/up driveAntec P193 Case | Corsair 1000W PSU | MS Win 7 Professional 64 BitMy website and aviation photo gallery - www.christopherbporter.com
July 25, 200619 yr the navteq data fsx is going to use, is the same quality as ultimate terrain navteq data?RickPent 4 3.0 1024 ht/offasus p4c800hd 200gb 4 partitionsmaxtor 7200 rpmati 9800pro 256 cat 5.1221"IIyama crt19" relisys crtwin xp sp2 CH yoke + pedals+ 1dell 1hp laptop for asv ivae etc
July 25, 200619 yr From the standpoint of the road data, I would certainly think so, but I don't know what navteq do as far as the stream, rail, and coastline data.Another interesting question will be photscenery. If 1.2m resolution becomes true, maybe more realistic vector line textures and some other way of working with underlaying photo scenes. Maybe some better associated augogen and BRIDGES. (at least for me, I turn off the default bridges. I hate how they look.) scott s..
July 25, 200619 yr I would assume that the addition of the NAVTEQ terrain will be the end of Ultimate Terrain, however I am sure we will see a lot of new improved textures (hopefully Ground Environment) and localized high-resolution mesh.Pat
July 26, 200619 yr Check the Ultimate Terrain support forum. It's been said that UT will continue on in FSX. It's not the end of UT.
July 26, 200619 yr >Check the Ultimate Terrain support forum. It's been said>that UT will continue on in FSX. It's not the end of UT.Yeah, I don't understand why it would mean the end for UT???
July 26, 200619 yr FSX: "Through NAVTEQ, data such as road network information, ferry landings, railroads, detailed water information (such as oceans, rivers, lakes, harbors, etc.), parks, golf courses, and recreational areas, this information enhances the "Flight Simulator X" user experience."UT (FS9): "Ultimate Terrain contains nearly every road, enhanced railroads, new night lighting environment unlike anything else on the market, corrected Oceanic coastlines, accurate landclass textures, plus much more. [...] using commercial data licensed from companies like Navteq, TeleAtlas, and DMTI Spatial"Isn't that exactly what UT does? I don't get it. Why would I need UT, if FSX has been fed that information already?Pat
July 26, 200619 yr "Ultimate Terrain contains nearly every road, enhanced railroads, new night lighting environment unlike anything else on the market, corrected Oceanic coastlines, accurate landclass textures, plus much more. <...> using commercial data licensed from companies like Navteq, TeleAtlas, and DMTI Spatial"FSX will use only Navteq. July 26, 200619 yr And no doubt NavTeq can deliver several different products depending on what the customer desires.Different levels of detail and accuracy for example.
July 26, 200619 yr so if UT uses the same data, and they had a hard time getting enough accurate info for eastern europe, the middle east, etc, then it looks like FSX wont have such global detail after all. oh well
July 26, 200619 yr FS offers the basics, and UT builds on that, so I would assume UT will offer new and improved goodies once FSX is out Alaister Kay
