how well will fs9 perform on an 8th generation i3 laptop

Featured Replies

Greetings to all.

I am in a market for a new laptop for fs9 or possibly fsx and I was wondering how well will this laptop handle fs9,or even fsx with some addons like the ifly 737ng or pmdg 737ngx.

laptop brand: Acer

Laptop name: Acer aspire e15 e5-576-392h

i3-8130u(2.2ghz upto 3.4ghz)2cores,4 threads,4mb cache.

Intel uhd 620,

6gb ddr3l dual channel memory

1tb hdd -5400rpm.

That's the specs of the laptop I am looking forward to buying,I will have gone for a much stronger pc but I am on a tight budget.I need your advice or experience in simming on similar i3-8130u laptops.I am new to this forum and I need your expertise on this topic.

Thankyou

Actually, it should run fine. I'm running a similar Acer with 4GB RAM perfectly, & we are even using Celerons with 4GB RAM to power our simulators.

So.. go for it...

thankyou wobbie for your quick reply and Do you have fsx installed on your laptop,if yes do you use any complex addons?

No FSX, but 8 versions of FS2004, with plenty of complex stuff, and I'm getting no issues or lags, with anywhere between 40-50 frames depending on plane, scenery etc

One thing to check is whether FS9 can run on Win10...I don't think it will, but have never tried it myself.  Since pretty much all new hardware is coming with Win 10 now, that's an important question.

FSX on a 2.2 GHz CPU is going to be a real performance challenge.

Yes FS2004 works very well with Windows 10.

Just a slightly different way of installing it. I'm very happy, but I cannot comment with regard to FSX.

With just the Intel GPU, you'll do fine for FS9; but for FSX, I have my doubts...

Thank you all for your replies,I will go for the laptop.I am a 737 fan,as far as i could get the rig to fly the pmdg 737 or ifly 737 with few addon sceneries without any difficulties that's all that matters...

Best of luck.

If you will be installing FS2004 into Windows 10, there will be a few extra steps to do.

Install into C:\   NOT into FS2004's default directory

Install the FS2004 9.1 update, as well as the 9.1 patch, without which the sim will not run.

These are both available from https://flyawaysimulation.com/

Right-click the desktop icon & select "Properties
Select the 'Compatibility' TAB
Find 'Compatibility Mode'
Tick 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:
Pull down & select Windows XP (it just works!
Then, further down, Tick 'Run this program as an administrator.
Click 'Apply'
Click 'OK'

Double-click the desktop icon as normal..

All will work.

It's quicker to do than to explain! 🙂

Robin

Thanks Robin.I had no idea how to install it in windows 10.I really appreciate it😊

Pleasure. It can get a bit confusing when it does not work the first time.

Also, I've written an article on multiple installs & how to customise FS2004 installs that could be of interest.

MS offered Combat Sim as a separate flight sim many years ago after FS9 was released. The aircraft and other items shared some of the same properties.

I got it from a friend, the label says "aircraft combat(wings of power I&II) for fs9/fsx or combat flight simulator 3"
