A GTX 1070 seem to expensive for me. So I don't see any reason to upgrade that now. I already use SSDs.

A GTX 1070 is the entry price for spectacular looking scenery.. your call if you think it is worth it..

Actually I have seen some offers for a 1070 (customer who returned it to the store then sold at discounted prices) that seem reasonable. I have also seen advices that I better look at (1080 hard to find here) or 2070.

My conclusion so far. If I get P3D 4 I will  upgrade my GTX 970. Question is with a better video card would it not make sense to wait for P3D V5 ?

With the new Microsoft flight sim right around the corner I'm not dipping into P3D4 or 5. Wait and see.

It's not 'right around the corner'. It could be as late as autumn 2020. Anything you buy now will still be usable with the new sim.

Right around the corner....it's summer 2019 now. As for add on compatibility? We can only hope so at this point given there hasn't been much in details from Microsoft.

Looking at my hardware I have GoFlight modules and a MCP/EFIS and without a driver they’ll just be collecting dust. I use FSUIPC5 extensively for programming switches on the PMDG737. Neither of those will work in this new sim.

I have EFB, AS16, LittleNavmap and a few 3rd party aircraft plus a whole load of 3rd party airports not to mention ORBX FTX Global, UTX Europe and USA. Oh, and FS Global.

All those will be useless in this new sim. Yes, the scenery is stunning but flying it with a default aircraft and default airports and no hardware working for God knows how long is too great a price to pay.

I’m not saying I’ll never buy it but I’m pretty happy with what LM are giving us and with v5 to follow things will change for the better in that too.

I strongly suspect that even if I upgrade my video card I wont stand a chance to run this new MS simulator. Usually when MS releases a new sim there exist no computers that can run it. Also I find it hard to believe that our FSX addons will work in it. I see no way this sim could replace our current in a near future.

Pure speculation. It’s capable of running on an XBox. Check the specs for that. Yes, FSX was a dog’s dinner back in 2006 and even at a flight sim show the Microsoft computers couldn’t run it well. They’ve learned from that.

So buy P3D v4 and the 1070. Use sensible settings and you’ll be fine. I really don’t know what else to say to you. I’ve 27 years if experience of PCs and flight sim. I don’t make recommendations unless I’m sure of my ground.

Try golf with annual club fees that would exceed a new build every year....

For the cost of an Xbox One X you can play an incredible golf sim feature zillions of amazingly well done courses, play on line in tournaments or with a friend.  It's essentially the same gig as flight simming, except it's golf simming.  Exceedingly engaging, challenging, rewarding,  and all for about..$500.  The appeal will mainly be for people who play RL golf and are familiar w/ the addictive quality of golf and more specifically, what it takes to play at a high level.

I'm in a similar boat, or shall we say plane, as the OP.   I'm still using P3D V3.4, but have no desires to upgrade until my hardware dies of old age.  Right now I have 6 years of an average use of maybe 3h per day, every day, at 4.42Ghz on a 3930K, and an original GTX Titan, and it runs the sim quite well provided I keep my distance from the uber complex areas like Seattle.  I can fly in an out of these I just have to dial back scenery sliders a bunch.   But most everywhere else it's totally fine.  I haven't had an OOM but maybe 5x in 6 years.   It's very hard to tell what role the Titan plays--it can hardly handle terrain/cloud shadows so unless flying lightweight aircraft often I just leave these off and quite frankly...I hardly notice they're off.   I'm hoping to make it til V5 appears then do a big jump then if it still makes sense, P3D I mean.  P3D v3.4 is still an awesome sim and I am very thankful I don't bother upgrading every little iteration that pops out of LM it's hardly worth the bother since 3.4 evolved to where it did.   Consequently all of my sim time is flying, not fixing problems caused by the last incremental upgrade.

Improved ATC, improved coloration of clouds at sunrise/set, or problems w/ OOMs would have tempted me in but alas none of those apply here.

You might just want to try V4.5. (Client upgrade only), after backing up your current install so you can go back to it..

The scenery visuals have improved, especially with higher resolution photoscenery which Orbx uses near airports all over the place.. It really does look better..

I have a 1060ti with just 3GB VRAM and I've been happy with the way it renders my simulations, which in addition to P3D4.x and Xplane11 include NoLimits 2 Coaster Simulator and Train Simulator 2019.  I have always been a big fan of Nvidia products (my motherboard is also Nvidia), they make a good product that has never failed to amaze me in the sim world.  Ha ha, I remember the old days when I used a Voodoo card for MSFS, now that was different!  And much less of a sim helper compared to the vid cards of today.  It was the folks in these very forums that talked me into replacing it with an Nvidia.  Except for an ATI card that I returned in a hurry, I have used Nvidia ever since.  They are the gold standard for PC video.
