Is it going to be a "distributed FDM" ?

You want the link of the official Microsoft Flight Simulator Web Page?

there it is: https://www.flightsimulator.com/

This? Where does it say that includes free scenery streaming for the entire world? There'll be a subscription element.

“I want to pay for it in unmarked, non-sequential, low denomination bills, placed in three black plastic bin bags, left on the third floor of an abandoned multi-story car park, at midnight.” – AVSIM User

MSFS – Done. Once you make the drop, head south 3 kilometers. Locate a metal trash bin, retrieve mobile phone at bottom of bin. At 1:06AM text “no subscription”. Await further instruction.

This is a hint. Why would they say something like this?

Sorry but "hints" just don't cut it.

If it's actual fact then MS should just say it.

They don't say come out and say it because they are not committed to an approach and they will choose whatever approach is best for their bottom line, which will undoubtedly include a subscription element, IMHO.

Well it seems this is your opinion and I have to disagree.

Obviously, even if this is just a hint, they know the answer and you don't. Until now, they didn't lie or made false speculations about anything.

Distributed FDM... no thanks, I can just imagine the stutter when my daughters are watching Netflix and I'm trying to do some simming.

It wouldn't surprise me if FS2020 is a "stutterfest" anyway as the scenery is streaming from Azure (I think).

Not necessarily IMO, although it looks rather unlike to me after thinking a bit more about it.

The "distributed flight model" approach is used and can actually make the overall simming experience rather smooth, probably smoother than it would go if run locally.

It's used for instance in traning simulators, when various instances run among various servers / clients on a networked environment.

But actually it doesn't look like the best approach for FS2020. It appears scenery will have a streaming option though, from what we read so far.

I bet it's great running FDM on a LAN with low latency, but not a WAN (ie the internet).... Let me check speedtest.net, yep 56ms ping atm, that's not going to be a smooth experience.

It's not really a constraint - depending on how it's coded...

In Aerowinx PSX we can be flying the same 744, experiencing the very same "sensations" while you're in New Zealand and I'm in Portugal :-)

Seems to me all Aerowinx would be doing is synchronising the weather you are flying through with the FDM being calculated on your respective PCs.

IMO, this is quite different to using compute cycles on Azure to calculate the FDM.

Have you seen the Intel Easy Streaming Tool, Tom`s Hardware has a post about it funny how they come out with this now with the streaming platforms about take off.

The only thing "streaming" off Azure in FS2020 will be the scenery and on a subscription basis, IMHO.

We don't know no conformation on that until MS come up with the real facts.

While obtaining data from the cloud in and off itself can be done in a rather harmless manner... having code streaming in from the internet (i.e. "the cloud") is not a wise choice.  The more we expose our computers to the internet, the easier it is to be hacked.

Keep in mind, all things Microsoft are the largest hacking target on the planet.

If you think streaming is a risk then it`s time to unplug your PC from the net.

I'm pretty certain that's not what I stated at all, but hey... have at it!
