The mission based element will be great, im very exited to hear about this, besides i think the screenshots look great. And remember to compare the screens to FS9 without 1000 payware addons.OHN

Hi Yeah, the autogen looks a lot denser. I like the look of the reflections on the water too. However, a few screenies can only tell us so much.I am just pleased that we now know that FSX is a goer - for a time there was a lot of speculation about it being the end of the line for FS on the PC; I don`t normally trust these rumours but it seeded some concerns amongst a few of us.I`m getting excited already - whatever the cost/ spec requirements / preview criticism etc I`ll be buying it as soon as its released! CheersJames

I watched the webcast, and the thing that really stood out was the sense of SCALE. The flight from the back of the boat was breathtaking!! Tha mountain looked huge!

Hello-Well...the FSX shots have been out for 1 hour now. What are some of your first impressions?I'm surprised how it looks like FS9 will some spice. Noted observations:1. Bloom2. Water reflections3. Wet surfaces4. Much better autogen5. AI animals (only birds at the moment)6. AI ships7. Road texture new8. New aircraft reflections9. Rivets10....Anything else so far?

Looks alot like what the fellow was saying during the webcast. They're trying to make a living world. That one picture of the trucks on the highway looks great. Overcast seems much better too.

I am also very excited about the mission element of FSX because it sounds like it could add a lot more possibliters to flightsim. The Default A/C shown in the screen shots look real good aswell because the are planes I would like to use unlike the FS9 defualt stuff. VFR flying looks like it will be much more entertaining than in FS9 becasue there is some decent scenery that looks half way real. Taylor

I watched the FS part in the broadcast at 100 kb/s . The video image quality wasn't great so it was hard to tell but even at that quality I could see many nice additional graphical improvements. One thing I noticed was that it showed some masts of small boats at a wharf and they seemed to be swaying a bit. Was I seeing that right ?From pics I've seen, I like what I've seen. Considering it's all default, just imagine how great it will look when modded LOL.The water and the vehicles are nice additions.

Guess the big questions remaining are whether or not aircraft AI has been improved and if FDE's are more realistic.Well, hey....that's why they have 12 more moths, right?

Yes, they were swaying... :)

"AI animals (only birds at the moment)"There is also a dolphin in the shot of the helicopter approaching the yacht. :)

I have only seen two screenshots that show this... but there seems to be evidence of aircraft casting shadows upon themselves. Take a look at fsx029.jpg in the screenshots... you can see the shadow of the strut, wing, and part of the gear struts being cast on the aircraft, seemingly at a correct relative angle to the sun. The only other picture I can see it is not a very clear one, but look at the dark side of the helicopter in fsx021.jpg. I'm not concerned about the stabilator on the tail rotor boom, as that can easily be textured in, but the dark side of the chopper has a definite shadow line along the bottom. Another thing I've noticed is the water is now reflecting real-time. You'll see in pictures fsx002, 009, 011, 016, and 025. The world is reflected in the water... not just the atmosphere but you can see the actual clouds being reflected, and I believe this is most stongly evident in 002 and 025... in 025 you can see the Goose's reflection in the water. Those two I believe haven't really been mentioned yet so I thought I would bring those up. P.S. Does anyone happen to have a recording of the webcast? I started watching it but since I am hard of hearing, all it was to me was blahblahblahblah and they seemed to take their time getting to the FSX info. I never was able to catch it.

*Very* impressed.

Well, I sure am looking forward to FSX, BUT...What type of systems are we going to have to get to run it well?Remember the difference between FS2000 compared to FS98? Big difference on hardware...Maybe I will be wrong, but thank goodness I have a good system at the moment, but we'll see...

"Does anyone happen to have a recording of the webcast?"Todd,Last year's CES keynote was, so this year's should be available from MSFT soon. Cheers,Jason{EDIT} added Todd's name
