September 10, 200619 yr Running the demo, my water at High 1.x looks like FS9 water with detail turned off (static, but sparkly - most certainly lacking any wave-like characteristics). Having just watched NotASenator's Chicago FSX beta videos in which water settings are purportedly the same as mine, and having observed their distinct wave-like characterists, I'm wondering if my experience is unique. Others, opine!Earl
September 10, 200619 yr Hi,I definitely have wave motion at 1.x high.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page

Others, opine!>>>EarlIt certainly seems to depend on where I am, but most of the time, I get some sort of motion. Nothing like 2.x water. I think in the Chicago one, I might have turned it up, I forgot. I've been doing a lot of tweaking.
September 10, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi there,I get some water motion too in 1.x but, as others have said, how obvious that is depends on the area you're in (water color) as well as time of day and weather situation.Am I the only one who actually gets dizzy when spending too much time flying close to water at 2.x ? ;-) Together with the head latency movements in the virtual cockpit I sometimes start to worry whether I'll get motion sickness. MS may need to put a big warning sticker on the FSX box :-erks :-hah Cheers, Holger
September 10, 200619 yr Here's a comparison of all the different water settings, on the same flight around the Golden Gate bridge.I turned off autogen to assure better performance:http://www.laniercreative.com/brian/flight...terdetailx.html
September 10, 200619 yr Hi, thanks you for posting this video, it shows the different 'levels' up very clearly; but what are those strange shadow lines extending from the shadow of the plane that you can see from time to time. I noticed them in the demo and would have thought they'd be gone in the Beta.Andy

September 13, 200619 yr Ok, here's what I get. The first picture is Mid 1.x, the second is High 1.x. As you can see, they are the same. The waves you see are not animated, they're part of the water texture. The only animation I get is a shimmering, nearly identical to FS9 with water effects set to LOW. Mabye this is right, but I don't think it is. Thoughts? If someone could post screenshots of their water mid and high 1.x, in roughly the same conditions, that'd be great. To get there, start at Princess Juliana in the Beaver, slew about 1 mile to the right. Noon, fair weather. The SF water comparison shots were great, but weren't quite detailed enough (thanks though!).http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156293.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156294.jpg

September 13, 200619 yr Sorry, I should have put that up front. I'm using a Radeon 9550 256 MB. Water 2.x looks great, but makes it unflyable.Textures set to 1m, Special effects to medium (high makes no difference), detail textures checked (I've tried unchecked), global texture quality at maximum.Earl
September 13, 200619 yr Earl,I think that you don't see a difference between 1.X Mid and 1.X High because your video card doesn't support shader model 3. I'm guessing that an advanced shader makes all the difference in the two settings.
September 13, 200619 yr Perhaps that is the case. I thought that the 1.x stood for SM 1, and 2.x was for shader model 2. My water 2.x, however, looks just like others'.
