Captain Sim - Block F

Featured Replies

I was reading about the Block F product and it seems that once this has been released, we will have a simulation on our hands that is on par with the LevelD 767 and PMDG 747.

I'm glad you're so hopeful for them. :)Captain Sim will never be on par with Level-D or PMDG when it comes to the level of internal simulation.

some people buy into marketing hype instead of facts and history unfortunately

Not to mention they could use help in the PR department.

"Captain Sim will never be on par with Level-D or PMDG when it comes to the level of internal simulation."I don't know about that... The question is when will the block 'F' get released versus who's on par with what??? CS can save the rest of the crap I keep hearing about, everyone else is releasing full products. People don't care about a freighter version or meaningless updates to the visual model if the underlying product is not that far removed from the default FS9 aircraft. We want the full product (Avionics wise that is) not hacks on the visual model. I believe the final product will be at least on par with PSS's offering if nothing else (I have to at least give credit to PSS for releasing a full design, not pieces here and there). I've had no choice at this point but to get used to PSS's model. I'm finding most issues I've had before are not show stoppers (well the VC night lighting is a major problem as it renders the AP useless at night. It's FS2000ish sloppy dome light is horribly positioned. The AP gauges need backlighting). FSX may be released before CaptainSim get's their act together. By that time we all will have moved on in one way or another. Some by then will be into the new version of Flight Simulator while the rest of us will have received the patch from PSS for the 757. Who needs CaptainSim's framerate intensive offering at that point...

>I've had no choice at this point but to get used to PSS's>model. >I've been going back and forth on whether I should bite the bullet and buy the PSS version, or wait for Captain Sim's Block F. Somebody at Captain Sim's marketing department is asleep at the wheel. If they were to release Block F, I suspect they could substantially cut into PSS's sale. In terms of animations and visual models, there is really no comparison between the two. I'm pleased with CS's C 130, so I suspect that they will provide us with reasonable flight dynamics. (Still waiting for the promised patch for the 707).I am simply irritated by PSS's "no frills" approach to designing and releasing addons. The main problem is that, after reading their forum, it's not always clear whether a reported issue is a bug or a user error. What would help potential buyers out would be an immediate "shake down" review of the first released version. This should include a clear and honest evaluation as to whether or not an addon is worth buying at this point. Forum statements like "This plane's buggy" or ""This plane is great" are simply not very helpful. ricardo

Not all have the time to indulge in programming and full systems. Granted they might have reversed the order of release since nobody seems to want to wait for anything, but the block system is a great idea.Todd

Their 727 panel looks great, but underlying it are bad flight dynamics, dummy gauges and gauges that don't work as they should. As to that patch that was going to be released in May 2006...>Not to mention they could use help in the PR department. They could do with a good support dept. as well! Captain Sim's forum moderator is not the friendliest or most helpful person in the world - and they're not good at fast responses!

Captain Sim is like a dumb blonde. Pretty to look at, but nothing goin on upstairs. `

The only thing that concerns me with them is the performance is just outright horrible on my system. No matter what I do to try and tweak, it just sits in my hangar. I think they should strongly consider correcting this first before attempting to do anything further. That is where the "nothing going on upstairs" is so true. With my specs, should this be that bad? Everytime, I touch a switch, fps drops too. How in the world is anyone else using this plane and enjoying it???????? Can anyone provide what they are doing different to make it work without a strobe show?? If there was an answer to that, then maybe I would get excited about block F. Sorry to rant, but I am so frustrated with this product. I have just about every addon that has been produced for FS9, and this one is the worst. Thanks for listening.

In premise, the "Block" idea is great. I analogize it to a buffet, one can pick and choose what one wants to put on one's plate. Bare minimum vegetarians are equally as happy as the four course feasters...BUT...In practice, Captain sim has botched the Block system in spades. What they are offering is a buffet...but the vegetarians get their minimal plate of food while those waiting for a four course meal are left waiting for it to appear with only promises of wonderful feasts to come. In the meantime our stomachs are left growling and our plates remain empty (save for the very pretty salad - great to look at but leaves one empty and wanting MUCH more)In keeping with that analogy, I've long ago taken one look at the pitiful offering at the buffet, reinserted my credit card into my wallet, given the waiter the 'bird' and decided to eat elsewhere...

I completely agree with you Chris. Will

I am still amazed anybody still eats there!I got food poisoning from their C-130/Paypal plate. Its kind a like stepping over sickened, chunk spewing customers blocking the doorway in order to get into a restaurant. If the meats green, do not eat it.Seem though that rather than stick it to ya one big time, CS now decided to stick it to ya in smaller increments.Ok Im done bashing...........

Since the original 757 release CS has released four updates, including an ACE update that just came out yesterday. And this week they released a freighter version. In fact, the only remaining scheduled releases are the advanced flight model (the basic one already exists), and the advanced programming block (FMC). If your that hungry and can't wait, well here's your hat and coat. Many of usare more than happy with what's already on the CS menu. I hope you have better luck dining elsewhere.Regards,MarkPS: ...Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Both disappointed me, for the reasons already said. CS's 757 looks great, and the level of detail in some areas is astonishing but the 2D panel is slapdash, the functionality is lacking in many areas and the frame rates kill it.PSS's 757 has a lovely panel and VC (if a little too 777-like!), but is shamefully designed outside. I took some like for like snaps to prove a point. Last time I did this, the post was deleted, presumably because someone didn't like the truth. I trust the mods will leave this one or I'll be sending a stinking email to the editorial staff....There's no contest with the 2D panels....http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/6774/2dpssun6.jpgEspecially looking at the dog's dinner of a CS panel...http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/7843/2dcswe8.jpgBut then you look outside and PSS's shiny textures, over-large engines and lack of detail really strike you... http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/1134/sidepssxp2.jpgCS's proportions are spot on...http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/2620/sidecdqb5.jpgFS98 anyone?http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/1720/gearpssnv4.jpgLook at the detail round the gear and flaps...http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/8967/gearcscg7.jpgLooking good head on...http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/9237/frontpssko7.jpgEngines VERY close to the ground on the PSS...http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/1084/frontcsox8.jpg
