FSX: Animals are they only in missions

Featured Replies

The Amazon trek mission has a bunch of birds. I remember being startled by a flock of them while we were waiting for the archeologist to poke around the ruins. They fluttered up out of a tree... very nice.I'm not 100% sure of this (and I hope it's not true), but I think for now the animated animals are only available in the missions. Like I said, I hope I'm mistaken.

It certainly seems that way. I have only seen them in missions and never in free flight mode.

I can't speak for animals of the four-legged kind but I can tell you there are lots of seagulls. You need only overfly any large ship.Example: in Miami harbour there are numerous ships docked quite close together. If you overfly the cruise ships so that you pass over between two of them, you'll see gulls over both. They always appear on the opposite side of the ship and don't venture very far from the ships. If you land the Grumman Goose in the harbour and taxi toward a ship, you can stop and sit and watch them fly around. Your view must be toward the ship and not too far away. They don't disappear after one pass either. I believe a bird strike is possible but you'd be very lucky for it to happen. I've had numerous close encounters but no hits.I've seen one report where someone getting ready to take off had a bear walk out onto the runway. I'm not positive but I think it was somewhere in Alask.Be aware: in Display Settings, Advanced animations (Graphics Tab) must be checked. In the Scenery Tab, the Special Effects detail slider must be at least at Medium. All this is in free flight mode.Regards,Cal

So theres no "dynamic living world", thats one more major dissapointment.

I guess with the animal animation existing within the missions it must be possible for the animation to be easily ported into the full Sim?I

Where on earth do these suppositions come from? Of course the animals appear outside the missions... in the release version...

What's funny is the animals in FSX are directly from Zoo Tycoon 2, per Microsoft reps at the conference.
