Quality Control for Developers?

Featured Replies

I'm all for the MS helping developers not cause conflicts by giving them a more compartmentalised structure.

What I'd hate to see is the new sim having anything like the Apple model, where not only do they control which specific titles I can buy, but also what type of title I can buy, effectively enforcing their own ethics and morality over I product that I have paid them to use.

The law is there to do that.

As already suggested in another thread, I'd like MSFS to have a standardized addon platform: all addons should - mandatory - be installed, updated, managed and uninstalled within the same system (something alike as can be seen in Orbx Central), to avoid the total mess we have now: every addon installs in a different way, there are configuration tools and files all over the place, you have to search dozens of places to keep all your addons up to date, every addon has to be updated differently etc. I don't want that any more.

Add to that an SDK that makes sure that addons are created in a way that it is impossible that addons mess up the sim by putting files all over the place.

That alone should automatically ensure a decent quality standard of addons. And users would be able to easily activate / deactivate any addon.

But I don't want MS to decide which addons will be available and which are not. The standardized addon platform should be accessible for all developers with all kinds of addons. It should be up to the user to decide. If it is feasible it would be nice to also have a mandatory time limited demo available for every addon on that standardized addon platform.

Really? Guys, take responsibility for your needs & purchases. it's all about freedom of choice.

I certainly do not want to be spoon fed & told what I should buy!! What about the freeware developers?

Demo's cost as much to make as the real thing.

This is exactly where a monopolistic MS sale channel  (an other way of saying that MS should control quality) would lead us. The somewhat relative mess we have now, is the price we pay for the creativity of the industry and our freedom of choice. A small price IMHO. I do not want a FS world sanitized by MS lawyers and engineers. Aseptic means sterile.

Hopefully we'll see an end to this 'disable your anti-virus' and 'run as Administrator' nonsense.  I'm convinced that permissions problems and incompatibility with Windows subsystems are the cause of a large number of CTD type issues.

I hope to see some curation on their official stores (Microsoft Store and Steam (?)). By Curation I mean minimal requirements to sell products for the new sim.

I'm willing to buy only through their official stores. Steam if possible. I'd like to have everything (base sim and all add-ons) on the same place and being automatically updated.

I do not mind curated sites if they are not compulsory channels.

Sure. And as far as we know, they will allow 3rd parties to sell on their own stores.
