Notes & pictures about the "last" B757 ever produced...

Featured Replies

I make it a point to fly my B757 SIMs (CS and QW) from time to time, just because the B757 is such a nice and enjoyable (jet) plane to fly in our SIM (with its interesting combination of, so to speak, "old" and "new" cockpit technology). Today, while looking to make a flight with the CS 757-200, I ran into a curious coincidence...the Shanghai Airlines (CS) livery (Registration: B-2876), that I wished to fly, happens to be the very last B757 ever produced (the 1050th off the line)! This aircraft is therefore the final Boeing 757, to roll off the Renton, Wash., assembly line in October 2004. It was delivered to Shanghai Airlines in April 2005. After 10 years of service, in 2015, Shanghai Airlines retired this special member of its B757 fleet. The carrier then bid farewell to the aircraft, after operating its final revenue flight between Shanghai and Chengdu on Aug. 19 (2014). After it left the Shanghai Airlines fleet, its active life, however, was far from being over. It was subsequently handed over to its new owner (Delta Airlines) assuming the Registration (N823DX).

The B757, at the time of its introduction in 1982, making use of the newly developed high-bypass-ratio turbofan engines and advanced technology, had earned a solid reputation as a high-tech wonder, meeting (prevalent) regulatory noise standards by a wide margin and also providing fuel-efficiency better than any other airplane in its size category. Today, more than 50 operators still fly some 1,000 of the twinjets (Delta Air Lines being the largest B757 operator in the world with ~100 units in service). The type also remains relatively active in the cargo sector as 757 freighters.

So, here, below, please find the last flight (in our SIM) of B757 (B-2876) for Shanghai Airlines from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (ZSPD) to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (ZUUU) - flying straight across west in the province of China (see screenshot of Route, that was directly uploaded into the FMS). Also, do note the Registration Number (B-2876) on one close-up (fuselage) shot of this 757 (someone was thoughtful enough to repaint this livery and this registration!). And, as noted earlier, this (special) B757 continues to fly now in Delta colors (i.e. just the skin is different but the plane is same underneath!). If interested, you may search for "N823DX B757 images" to bring up numerous (current) pictures of this 757 (looking sharp, in Delta colors, as always!).

Hope you enjoy the set of (below) images of this iconic plane in Shanghai Airlines livery (as much as I enjoyed flying it). Thanks for your interest and Good day!

The livery on the port side has the four Chinese characters in completely reversed order. It should be 上海航空 but the livery shows 空航海上

Hi Cai Zicheng: Good you caught the reversed (Chinese) characters (I couldn’t have noticed!)...Occasionally, I’ve seen that happen in repaints. We can try to contact the owner of this livery for fix...I’ll PM you if I find a lead. Thanks!

+1

Loved the story and set.

IMHO QW made the best yet model of the 757.

Love the aircraft but do not fly her yet as I am awaiting an invite for a 75/76 cockpit photo shoot. 😎

I have Just Flight's Freemium 757 which I should take out for a trip. She's been in the virtual hangar for some time!

Thank's for another interesting set with a historical aspect.

Ed, I sense another custom FS9 panel set in the future as and when you get to carry out your visit!

All: Many thanks for the comments (and reactions too)! Good to hear from folks passionate about this plane.

Mark: Yes, I recall the Freemium from many years ago, before I went on a SIM break for 3-4 years...it was a good model, and quite popular (because it was Free...🙂...)

Ed: That sounds exciting...what better way to closely familiarize yourself with these 757/767 cockpits!

Cai Zicheng: I PMed you the email of the repainter (from the README). But, let me drop an email myself...since the characters are indeed reversed when compared to the real, even I can tell...(that would give me an opportunity to thank him too...🙂...)

BTW, just a little more information about the last two 757s (Line numbers 1049/1050):
The 757-200, Registration B-2875, made its final revenue flight for Shanghai Airlines on March 21, 2015. It was the last but one 757 built (line number 1049), and was the last B757 to leave Shanghai Airlines fleet (again to new owner Delta Airlines). It's currently registered with Delta with new Registration No. N822DX, and appears active.

And, the final 757, as I've indicated in the post, performed the last Shanghai Airline flight on Aug 19, 2014. It's now active with Delta Airlines with Registration Number N823DX. As I write this, FlightAware is showing Delta N823DX (1050th) B757 is now "En Route from Seattle (SEA) to Lihue (LIH), Hawaii, with 2hr 12min remaining in the flight...". Amazing...the power of internet...! I didn't even know about Lihue as being a major Airline destination in Hawaii from the mainland....
