Are these external lights "normal"?

Featured Replies

Just installed and flew my first flight with the 35 last night.  Seems to be a very fun plane and fills the void of a decent business jet in my collection.  I don't really tweak effects or light files much but wanted to know if these external lights were "normal"?  They seem a bit over-exaggerated to me and for some reason the beacon doesn't actually flash, it remains constantly on like another nav light.

Thanks.

Any switch or knob on the control panel to change from flashing to steady for the nav/beacon lights?  If the lights are called out in the [lights] section of the aircraft.cfg, you may be able to substitute other light effects that may look like what you want.

As I recall, the lights were set up under the guidance of Joe, FSW's tech advisor and real world L35 pilot. On an external view you can see the red light from the beacons reflecting off the tip tanks (from the pilot's perspective) and body of the a/c as the beacons turn (maybe easiest to see using different outside views with the a/c on the ground).

In P3D, on the Options - Graphics - World screen you can make some adjustments with the Special Effects sliders.

No change regardless of Special Effects settings.

Not that I see in the manual.

On my system the Special effects detail slider definitely impacts the strobe flash rate.

Seems like it may be related to some of these effects files (at least the lights disappear when I move them), but I can't tell why the lights are that big or the beacon doesn't flash.  No change after a 4th full removal and reinstallation (version 4.2G).  Uninstalled my other C402 and FA50 products too, with no change.

The Beacon is not supposed to flash.
It is an old school rotating beacon. The effect is attached to the rotating parts of the fixture. The Dynamic light spill as well, so you can see the beacons rotating as they hit the tip tanks in P3D v4.

On the note of them being over-exaggerated, Mark increased the size of them because some people complained, I personally made them a LOT smaller.

Here's a link to what I believe are my original files, as I don't currently have the L35 installed since my new PC.

Yes these are the files. The reason we made them larger for the release version was because at a distance you can't hardly see them. Try zooming out and you will see what i mean. But close up they are not as large as yours are showing. It maybe caused by screen resolution size from your video card or the games settings. Check both.

You are seeing the beacon light reflect on the ground and body of the aircraft right? And the only concern is the size of the orbs. Which i believe is a computer or sim setting issue.

Well, the beacon doesn't move, rotate, flash at all as well.  It's on steady just like it were another nav lights.  I'm running 2K on a 1080 Ti.

I'm unsure what the issue is then, as you can see in this video, which was made while I was creating the lighting to showcase them, the beacons are indeed animated.

I remember that somewhere a discussion that after installing FSReborn AI Lights Pro, a similar problem may appear. This may have something to do with the effects files. I have AI Lights Pro installed, but I rarely leave the Lear35 VC and did not notice this problem. But I'll check it out tomorrow.

You show a beacon rotating effect on the fuel tanks and horizontal stabilizer.  I do not see that.  There’s nothing in my sim that shows the beacon is rotating or anything otherwise to suggest it isn’t just another red navigation-like light.

Your lights are also far smaller and much more believable than the giant orbs on my aircraft.

Thanks.  I don’t use that utility, so I’m not sure what .fx files it impacts.
