December 27, 20196 yr Early morning departure from Mumbai, although it's a bit brighter by the time we've got her fired up and been given clearance. A busy morning, although we're the biggest in the queue.... ... we still have to wait our turn! Climbing away We will not manage to out run the Sun. Only Concorde could do that in the civilian world. Settled well into the cruise, here we are over Iran (I'm assuming we can overfly Iran these days? Anyhow, off to the right is Mount Damavand, and beyond is the Caspian Sea. A bit more sightseeing, but the cloud cover made it a little disappointing: In the middle of the opening cockpit window is Mount Ararat, Turkey. Just prior to beginning the descent to LFPG I believe this is Reims below us. Getting vectors for a visual approach to RWY27R The visibility is good underneath all this, honest! Yes. If only all the airports would move there centreline markings a few feet to the right.. There's no shots of taxiing to the cargo ramp or the usual unloading shot because FSX suffered a crash without warning, I got the "Blue spinning doughnut of waiting" - no OOM bleeps. At least I got to land and vacate the runway. December 27, 20196 yr Nice narrative and shots, Mark...! Couple of thoughts came to mind: True, you cannot out-run in the Sun, but you can probably chase it...🙂...Chasing the sun is an interesting experience at 35k-40k cruise flight (if one happens to be heading in the right direction in the travel, and awake to catch e.g. the sunset)...the very first time, I saw it (as RW Pax), I could not believe, how long the sunset lasted...from what we're used to on the ground... And, about the "Blue spinning doughnut", the nemesis of FSX near big cities after a long flight....It's much less for me now in SE compared to FSX, but, I don't do many long flights (and I stay away from dense city areas)...at least, here, you managed to get clear of the runway...!
December 27, 20196 yr Author Thanks, P-7878. I do try and mitigate FSX's troubles by utilising Scenery ConfigEditor and turning off areas of the globe I don't need, and I had loaded the saved flight from about 100 miles out. I suppose that as LFPG is a large airport with Orly in close proximity, and given that I was in for an extremely long taxi run, all the default AI planes ganged up on my system. IIRC I think I had the traffic set to 50% (GA set to less than 10%). I've since reduced that to 40%. I've not yet decided to mess with aftermarket traffic software. Would it be beneficial regarding OOMs I wonder, whilst still providing that little bit of immersion in the lonely skies? Mark, you being a veteran of long distance flights, I can imagine these issues you may be running into...(there was a time I would diligently set up oceanic tracks and do long-distance, but not in recent years)... BTW, yes, I was going to say your LFPG looks a bit sparse...🙂...but nothing, at all, to take away from the fantastic overall series here...my only first-class flight (via mileage, of course...🙂...don’t see one more happening...) was via Paris in Air France, so I recall LFPG well...
December 28, 20196 yr Author A LOT of my airports look a bit sparse. Cheers though!
