how do I disable cockpit shadows completely?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

See my question.....

Tried several Lua scripts I found online but my shadows keep appearing. Due to fps issues I'd like to disable cockpit shadows completely but I don't know how?

Any tips?

 Thanks in advance!

Great stuff I'll give it a try!

Thanks very much for stopping by.

I had no idea I could do it while flying and seeing the result at the same time.

Thanks again I'll let you know if it worked!!

It works Marcus!

Thanks a lot. Downloaded the dataref editor and changed the value to 0.

It doesn't save the value however. I have to change the setting each time I fore up xplane11....is there a way to save this setting?

Cheers.

No, datarefeditor doesn't save any values, everything goes back to default after a restart of XP.

But the plugin FlyWithLUA does the job.

You can write your own LUA scripts and put them in place. It's fairly easy.

Let me me know if you need more help. I'm not the biggest expert on LUA programming myself, though.

I don't recommend turning off cockpit shadows. The perf. increase is marginal. And it takes away some magic. Changing the heading during flight and see the shadow smoothly shifting inside the cockpit - that's one of the best parts, especially during the otherwise somewhat boring experience of flying at altitude, since there's no flight attendant serving handjobs in the simulator.

In the other recent post concerning cockpit shadows, it was about the cockpit being too dark when in the shade - that's also a problem with display setup, not the shadows.

Any advice on how to fix it in the display setup? I use a lua script to kill the shadows because of the darkness, but I do miss the shadows, as you said... The cockpit darkness is my main gripe with X-Plane. Other than that, I love it!!

Welll, you have a point there.

It is kind of boring without the shadows I must admit.

I thought the fps increase would be enormous but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Thank you anyway!

Since X-Plane got rid of the gamma setting, you will need either one of those:

MaxxFX - a bread and butter plug-in that will enable various settings including brightness, contrast, gamma ect.

BluFX - same as above, but free. I don't know if it's still available.

Reshade - this is more complex (it's not a plug-in) but a very, very powerful post-processing suite. It's not beginner-level in terms of setup, but its also free.

EDIT

I did a bit of research and found this handy download link for BluFX: http://www.mediafire.com/file/w9dnhqn63rdkupp/blu_fx.zip/file
