Don't take this the wrong way. I downloaded these fixes in an instant and wil certainly try them later today but...Is it legal to take Microsofts textures as a basis, decrease the resolution and re-distribute them?I appreciate your help in getting beter framerates in FS-X I just hope you won't get into trouble over this.

He probably will, now that you have brought it to MS's attention...Actually, MS has let other similar projects alone, since you must have the sim to be able to use them. So it's not like he's 1) claiming they are his or 2) making something that takes money out of their pocket.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

yeah... if MS got mad about it... they'd only be killing their own product... because noone is gonna want to get FSX if they can only run at 15fps...

As far as I know, even any commercial product that includes an AIR file is based on original MS code. I don't see how this would be any different.Since the fixes basically seem to be making the difference between the sim being flyable or not for a lot of people, I would think MS woulnd't have a problem.Obviously if I get a request from MS I would remove them.Matt

Hello Tom,FirstI did not bring this to Microsofts attention I just posted in this thread.SecondA little while back there was some contraversy because someone ported the textures from FS-X demo 1 into FS9. As you know this demo is publicly available for everyone via the internet. That guy was specificly told that he could not distribute those textures by Tdragger.Greetings,Harry

Of course if you ask MS if you can distribute their copyrighted work, they are going to say no. But they are obviously selective in how strictly they enforce their policies given the amount of MS code that ends up in freeware and commercial FS addons. If they issued Cease and Desist letters everytime a snippit of their code was included in an addon, they would be shooting themselves in the foot because addons are key to the popularity of FS. They have every right to enforce their policy anyway they want, but it creates a grey area. That being said, I just finished creating smaller versions of 5 gigabytes of the autogen ground textures. Difference in visual quality isn't noticeable if you have slider set to 2 meters/pixel or greater and load times decrease significantly. However, I don't think I will be making these available on my server for two reasons. A) It's a 925 meg file and :( I do think that would be crossing the line as far as copyright infringement goes. But I think I can come up with a batch command so that people can do it themselves.Matt

Hi Matt,Changing the process to a batch command would be a great option. It would save on download costs and there would be less legal problems that way.The FS-X demo textures in FS9 discussion was right here in the AVSIM forums. The only thing that was posted where resulting screenshots folowed by a lot of gimmie, gimmie, gimmie replies. Then tdragger posted that such a thing could not be allowed. I gues that he would have posted in this thread if you had crossed the line. Thanks for your great tweaks!Harry

I've got the batch command all figured out. A simple BAT file that will convert all 6,700 ground textures from 1024x1024 to 512x512.I'll have it ready for public consumption tonight.I'll do a separate one for water textures.Matt

Matt,I dont even have FSX yet, but I think it is safe to say that your work is greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to try your enhancements once I get my copy of FSX... Thank you for your contributions :)Kind regards,John

thanks, im downloading your textures now :D

Where is the link to download the batch file?Ken

Hi all, sorry I have been absent for so long - that #### real world thing was impinging on my computer time. ;PMatt,I have no problem with you hosting the cloud and (incomplete - gasp) tree textures. Your web page with all the known tweaks is AWESOME.As far as copyright issues on anything I may have uploaded, I don't claim any rights to any of the texture files. Of course, if Microsoft wanted them taken down I would comply.Mike Kelly

Thank you soooo much!!!!!!!!!! When I first loaded up FSX I was so dissapointed and was ready to uninstall it again. But lucky me I didn't. Then, I downloaded the autogen tweak, and did the groundtexture converting. Now, I get about 15 FPS on my old AMD 2Ghz and Geforce FX5200 128 mb gfx card with almost all sliders turned to medium!!
