Even *more* framerate help?

Please try the attached cloud textures. They improved framerates for me but your mileage may vary - post your results here. The textures have been reduced from the originals and the alpha channels have been preserved. The dimensions have been reduced by 50%. This results in a reduction of the total size of the textures from 39.8MB to 15.3MB.There were no adverse visual effects that I could see although the reduced clouds do seem slightly more "fuzzy". IMHO this is not bad, just different. Here is a link to the reduced textures:http://www.savefile.com/files/146259Hope this helps you.Mike Kelly

I thought I should also add this seemed to be most helpful when using many cloud layers and types together (i.e. a storm scenario). I was bogging down into single digit framerates with the original textures - no slow down now with the reduced textures on my system.

It is kind appropriate that is tis the Halloween season. ACES gave us the great pumpkin and our members are having to carve out the guts to create a smile. LOL..Bob...

Very witty, if not a little harsh on our buddies at ACES :-lolGary

Mike,What you are doing is just unbelievable for me. I have a p4 2.4 with a ati 128 card. I was quite happy with FSX as I only fly bush. After loading your two revamped textures, I have been able to move the sliders up and still keep the same frame rates. If you keep this up I won't have to upgrade my computer.I think if all the textures were reduced as you are doing, I don't think anyone would have anything to complain about.Thank you,Ed

Thanks for your hard work, Mike, and for making it available to us. Same goes for the autogen tree files. Trying it out with the retail version right now...Jesse

I'll try your fix as well. I loaded up the new tree files and the sim is flying much better. Really looks great. Getting 15+ and 20+ with autogen at dense in forest scenery. Great visuals.AMD64/1024/AGP 7800GS

Is there anyway you could make another file with a sort of middle ground bewteen performance and looks? I find this files clouds are really blocky on the outer edges.

Thanks Mike. We overlook the fact that these appear to be the same type of textures which are in FS9 and can be very problematic on most systems on high density. Was really waiting for an FSX version.

Thanks! That helped!

Thank you. Another great tweak. Improves performance a lot.FSX is now getting to look REALLY good. To think that 3 days ago I uninstalled it.I think the key word here is OPTIONS - to configure/reconfigure anything and everything. Now all I need is a good payware aircraft and a good payware scenery to really test this baby. :-) Anybody here of any new releases/updates ? Yeah, I know it is too early.

Mike, I've started to put together a simple web page that lists all of the fixes and modified files before these all get buried. Hope you don't mind if I put your texture replacements there. If it's a problem, let me know. I figure once we get them all done and make sure there are no problems we can put them altogether and upload to AVSIM.Anyway, I just started the web page tonight and it still needs work, but you can find it here. http://www.fox-fam.com/wordpress/?page_id=41Matt

Very good idea!

Great job Matt. Thanks for all the help.Doug
