Thanks for kind words.  Assuming you are using FSX,  you would need at least 12 GB ram. What is video ram for your video card??  limit your fps to 35. Show us screenshots of your FSX settings   Bear in mind I know about FSX but NOTHING about FSX Steam.

My RAM is 8 GB, and my VRAM is 2 GB. I'm limiting all my user aircraft textures to DXT5 with mips, 1024 px almost always (2048 px in some light aircraft). Also, I'm not using any addon sceneries, just Orbx Base, Vector, Landclass and some AFCADs. As requested, see below my FSX settings (inside the spoiler):

Thanks, Aharon. I've studied your CFG, and I see some differences against mine:
- FPS locked at 23 instead of 30 (I use this lock due to the 1/2 refresh rate tweak via RTSS). I saw no CPU temperature difference going down to 25 with RTSS off.
- You run FSX DX9 while I use DX10 (with the Fixer).
- All your scenery (autogen, LOD radius, water FX) and AI settings (airline traffic, airport vehicles) are higher than mine.
- According to FSX, your CPU is faster than mine (ProcSpeed=6694 vs 5580).
- Looks like you're not into study-level (PMDG/FSL/Maddog/iFly) or aircraft with highly detailed VCs (Aerosoft/Quality Wings). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe my last statement explains why you can afford to have more scenery displayed. What did you use as CPU?

You are correct I do not have fancy payware aircrafts in my old retired laptop

It is from my retired 5 year old laptop that retired 2 years ago. So it was 15 inch Sony "S" Vaio laptop with quad core i7, 12 GB ram, 750 GB at 7,200 rpm, and 2 GB dedicated video ram

@Aharon @Luis Hernandez

I wasn’t going to say anything but in case we have new simmers reading this, I needed to point out this falsehood before they think they need to run out and buy more RAM for better FSX performance.

What is stated is true for P3D or X-Plane 64bit versions but not for FSX being only a 32bit program. FSX can’t use more than 4GB of RAM so it doesn’t really matter if you have 12, 16, or 32GB. Generally speaking 8GB is amble so that FSX can use 4GB and the operating system can use the remaining 4GB. Also important to note is that having more than 8GB RAM won’t improve FSX performance or prevent possible out of memory situations.

For a short time I actually ran FSX on a system with only 4GB of RAM using WinXP 32 bit beige moving to Win7 64 and upgrading to 8GB RAM. The only noticeable improvement was quicker texture reloads when switching views.

To touch on the part about “if your using ORBX” you need X amount of RAM. ORBX makes many products so you can’t use a blanket statement like that. If you use their Global product it’s just a default texture ground replacement product and the textures don’t degrade performance since they’re the same size and format as the default textures. Still, even using “ORBX” products doesn’t mean you need more RAM because FSX still can’t access more than 4GB.
