October 16, 200619 yr Ok I have searched and read the posts here on the forum and I do not think this has been covered yet for an install problem, if it has I apologize and i'm just blind :D Ok so yesterday my FSX decided that my validation was no longer valid but I was never given the option to enter a new code, called MS and they suggested just doing a reinstall, no big deal. So today I uninstall everything and start the reinstall, all is going good until I hit the very end of disk 2 when it tries to register fonts! It then gives me an error message which I have a screenshot of. Called MS back we did some troubleshooting and cannot figure it out, the guy took some PC info, I emailed it to him and he is going to back me tomorrow, he said I was not the only one having this problem, but I was wondering if anyone here has had this problem and found a solution? I did follow some other posts and made sure that I have the correct rights and such on my account and it all comes back fine. Anyone in the same boat?http://members.shaw.ca/stangrecki/fsxerrorinstall.jpg

October 16, 200619 yr Hmmm after the automatic rollback action the only thing left is the Fonts folder... http://www.twins4ever.dk/pictures/FSX/FSX_after_rollback.jpgSo mayby it really has something to do with this?
October 16, 200619 yr I have also mailed to [email protected]. I just hope this will be sorted out soon.... snif.
October 16, 200619 yr Author Hi,Had very similar installation problems, got onto the disk 2 install and the process just hung but following the advice in topic 354428 I have managed to get installed ok now.You can do it throught the WIndows Resource kit or they way I managed to get it to work was to go:Control Panel, Admin Tools, Local Security Settings then under Impersonate a Client After Authentication (double click) Add your user profile, apply and ok it. Then do the FSX install....Hope this works for you too.CheersMike
October 16, 200619 yr Hi Mike, I will try this out tomorrow, a little late here in DK. But thanx for the advice!!!CheersMark
October 17, 200619 yr And it didn't help me either. But thanx for trying. This could look like re-installing XP is the only solution right now. I just don't want to do that now.... :-(
October 17, 200619 yr Hmmm not ready to give up - yet....This time I added a shortcut to the setup.exe from the DVD to my desktop, adding this to it:D:setup.exe /v"/l*v C:fsxinstall.log"(I found this info here: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...e=&topic_page=1Post: #332633)This gave me a pretty big file (120mb) with everything logged. This will also be mailed to MS.If you want to see the file the grap it from here (zipped to 6.31mb): http://www.twins4ever.dk/files/fsxinstall.zipHere is the text around the error...not that it say me anything:MSI (s) (D4:7C) [17:45:09:937]: Executing op: CacheSizeFlush(,)MSI (s) (D4:7C) [17:45:09:953]: Executing op: InstallProtectedFiles(AllowUI=0)MSI (s) (D4:7C) [17:45:09:968]: Executing op: ActionStart(Name=OnInstallFilesActionAfter,,)MSI (s) (D4:7C) [17:45:10:015]: Executing op: CustomActionSchedule(Action=OnInstallFilesActionAfter,ActionType=3073,Source=BinaryData,Target=InstallFilesActionAfter,)MSI (s) (D4:5C) [17:45:10:031]: Invoking remote custom action. October 17, 200619 yr Author Hi,Did you try doing it the windows resource kit way? Making sure to reboot after applying the security change? Also when adding your name you need to make sure your pc is included, when I did it through Admin Tools had to use the Name Lookup function to get it quite right, PC/Name....Hope this method works for you...CheersMike
October 17, 200619 yr Sat 14th. Booted up my pc. Did a flight in FSX. After, loaded up FS9 and for some reason it came up with the FS9 EULA. Clicked accept, tried to load FSX and it gave me a system error, uninstalled FSX, tried to reload, got to the end of the loading session then hit me with error 1722(there is a problem with windows installer) tried a few times and got same error, so left it off. Back to FS9,running fine, or so I thought. D/L the PMDG 744 sound update, went to install and it hit me with FS9 not installed. Panic set in. I have now done a complete reinstall of my PC including Windows XP. Now got all my FS9 back to as it was before. Now at this time I'm to afraid to reinstall FSX.Gerry
October 18, 200619 yr FWIW, I'm on Vista RC2 and am getting the same error.Called MS and after 1.5h on hold, the guy was trying to tell me I had to uninstall Windows Installer 3.1 and reinstall it, and if that didn't work, I'd have to reinstall Windows. I was trying to tell him that the installer is a built in component of Vista and that it couldn't be uninstalled because it wasn't an update. He was silent for several seconds, then he hung up on me!I've tried quite a few different things to get it installed. The only other thing I can think of to try is a reinstall, and I'm skeptical about the benefits of that. I may have to try it, just to be sure.

I do believe though it started after I lanuched FS9 after using FSX for a few days.
