October 23, 200619 yr I have the same problem as you (ie, installed fsx on Friday night everything worked ok, no issues and then tried to start fsx on Saturday morning got a few error messages, so I decided to de-install fsx) - reinstall fsx and got the now famous 1722 error. Tried a few times and give up after
October 24, 200619 yr I re-installed my XP and FSX. And it seems that I'm flying again :-)Couldn't wait for MS....
October 24, 200619 yr Yes of course,Re-installing XP is a solution,BUT NOT THE SOLUTION.My XP is a fresh install(because of hardware upgrade),and i won't install it again just for FSX.I will wait for MS patch or smoother solution to correct this problem.
October 24, 200619 yr Well, wouldn't you just know... FSX crashed, rebooted, reload FSX and it tells me there's a product activation error. And guess what? I now have the installation error right at the end :D Looks like a reinstall of XP for me :)
October 24, 200619 yr Just reconfirming what most others have said in this thread: FSX is now functioning again after a reinstall of XP :D
October 26, 200619 yr I just got the famous Error 1722 and 1603 fatal error when trying to reinstall :(This really sucks and like must of you, I am not willing to reinstall winxp plus office, photoshop etc. all over again plus all the windows updates!!come on fx team, pleas fix this major problem.
October 26, 200619 yr Anybody knows a program tool that can show the lines that a software adds to regestry?I would like to install FSX in my laptop and see which are the lines that it adds. Then i would check for those lines in the pc where i try to re-install FSX and delete them.
October 26, 200619 yr Moderator >So it appears that you cannot run FS9 and FSX together,Well, I have FS95, FS2k, FS9 (3 copies!), and FSX installed on the same computer, and have only installed FSX one time when I got my RTM disks a few weeks ago.I've started and stopped FSX at least four times a day for 26 straight days now... So, at least I can say with confidence that you can run FS9 and FSX on the same computer... ;) Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

You would think that since the problem occurs during the end of the reinstallation and always results in the same error messages, the cause and solution shouldn't be that difficult to track down. I expected that there might be some bugs when this software was initially released but I never thought that I wouldn't be able to complete the installation process. The fact that we were teased by being able to run the program for a little while before an error that suggested we needed reinstall to fix the problem and then never able to reinstall makes it even worse.

October 26, 200619 yr Phoned Microsoft today and got through after 1 hour on second call. First call got cut off after 10 minutes. Basically they told me that they realise there is a problem and the engineer's are working on it.If anybody else has the problem please ring and let them know. Fling enough of the proverbial and some will stick.
October 26, 200619 yr Unless I've misunderstood the article, it looks like there may be a way to resolve this error now.--------------------------------------------------------------http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/927007Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.To resolve this issue, follow these steps:1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then OK.2. Expand the following registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCURRENTCONTROLSETCONTROLCLASS{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}3. After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side.4. Change the value from 0 to PartMgr, and then click OK.5. Close Registry Editor, and then try to use the activation wizard.--------------------------------------------------------------Doesn't prevent the issue occurring in the first place, of course, but might just mean we don't have to reinstall XP the next time the dreaded Product Activation Error appears (when it's already been activated anyway!).
