And it didn't help.... I will try the uninstall of the Installer and see if that helps.... but I don't hold my breath any more... :-(CheersMark
October 18, 200619 yr Went and did an exchange of the game at futureshop here and still no luck, I read a post saying copying files from the DVD's to the harddrive then install? I might try it.
October 18, 200619 yr I've had the same thing with other games ...it's the silly Windows installer program. Leaves behind garbage that conflicts with the next installation. You all probabaly realize that...could this be of help?http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MSICLEAN.htm
October 19, 200619 yr I'm having the same problem. I wonder if it could be a conflict with FS9? I doubt it though.I believe the installation is having problems trying to write a file into the temp directory. I've had similar problems before with a game called Ghost Recon: Advance Warfighter. It would only install when a very helpful tech led me to a batch file that circumvented the temp file writing process. Too bad we're dealing with microsoft here.. =|
October 19, 200619 yr Just spent 3 hours (2 1/2 on hold) on the phone with Microsoft about this...I had both FS9 (stock) and FSX running concurrently just fine for a day. Then I got a freeze after coming out of FSX and trying to play an MP3. First time my computer has frozen in months. Next time I fire up FSX, it tells me there is a problem with the installation and it's no longer validated and advises me to uninstall/reinstall to fix it. I uninstall, but can't reinstall because it gets stuck at the fonts part at 99.99% complete. Throws out an error 1722 followed by an error 1603. Wouldn't reinstall no matter what I did (including copying the DVD contents to a folder and running the setup program from there).Enter Microsoft tech support. I describe the problem and instructs me to 1) uninstall FS9, 2) create a new admin account and after making a couple regedits reinstall using that new account in safe mode. No dice. Won't even start the install process. So he tells me to make a couple more regedits, then has me download the newest installer version (3.1?) and attempt to reinstall the game again. It starts the pocess and our call ends before I can tell him it's a bust again. Same error 1722, same result, 3 hours wasted.Returning the game tomorrow. Maybe I'll pick up a copy in a month when they've sorted these things out. Not willing to reinstall XP and have this BS happen again.
October 19, 200619 yr I've had FSX for a couple of weeks and had the same problem. I've given up. Tried all the remedies on this and other istes. MS finally recommended that I reinstall XP. That isn't going to happen.Frustrating to spend $70 for a product that can't be installed without a reinstall of the OS. I'm happy staying with FS9 for now... especially given the unknowns about the Vista/DX10/FSX combo at this point in time. I actually feel better about it all. I'll wait for others to be the paying beta testers when Vista/DX10 hits the streets. Maybe at some point in time I'll give FSX another try (would like very much to get something for my money).Such is the world of computers.Greg
October 19, 200619 yr Had the same problem with errors in the end of installation. But the second installation attempt did get through without any errors. I have also FS9 on my computer (P4 2800, Geforce 9600pro, 1Mb memory). The only thig I did between installations was to unplug my second display from "Ati control center" or whatever it
October 19, 200619 yr I feel your pain, but will re-install tonight.... can't live with paying DKK600 for a game a played
October 19, 200619 yr Greatings all,I am a long time lurker and now feel the need to post. I have been lucky in the fact in can get FSX installed:) The question I have is that it's now asking me to register. Now I don't have internet access so this could be tricky. There is an option to get the MS phone number. Could somebody please advise what this process will involve as I've read a few post regarding peoples dealings with MS and FSX in particular and it looks like the lines may be busy!!!Do I have to register by a certain date? What happens if I don't register at all? Getting internet access is not an option until after Christmas. Why do MS assume we're all net surfers??RobEngland
October 19, 200619 yr Commercial Member I imagine it's as painless as having to call to register XP after it's been used a few times. I had to do it the other week and it took all of a couple of minutes. For those having install problems; sorry, I've no idea why these are happening to a few and not to most others. Cheers Paul Golding
October 19, 200619 yr Just select phone activation option and then call in and do it, and yes as Paul said, its as painless as activating XP over the phone. On a FSX note, I have an old 80gb hard drive, I am going to see if I recreate this problem then format (which will most likely get FSX working) Maybe then we can figure out whats going!
October 19, 200619 yr most likely it will work. u can even try transfering the files directly onto your main hard drive from the old one until Microsoft comes up with a fix. :-roll you just won't have the entries needed in the registry. i'm tellin u the desperation monkey is on my back right now and it's tempting me to reformat/reinstall xp. my biggest set back to that is my FS9 which is about 50GB worth to back up =|Oh and i've seemed to misplace my FSX reciept.

I'm most bummed that I actually enjoyed playing FSX before it went kaput on me. Dang M$!
