DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG CTD when using v5 ATC

Featured Replies

Anyone else getting these errors and crashes when interacting with the ATC menus?  Happens every time I use them, usually I get through a minute or two of interactions with the ATC menus, and then I get the error.  I also notice the ATC menu flashing every few seconds while it is up.

This happens with the default aircraft and with the A2A and RealAir aircraft I have tried.  The only stuff I have installed are Orbx Global and open LC packages with Orbx Trees HD and a bunch of Orbx NA airports, and ChasePlane to run Trackir.  No config file changes yada yada - sliders are not maxed at all.  This is with and without TrueSky running.

If some folks haven't used the ATC menus and could try it, I am curious if this is common or something unique to my setup.

Yesterday I was flying KLAS to KSAN with NGXu using flighplanner IFR ATC guidance. On approach to KSAN, the ATC window opened and I received an ATC services terminated for no reason, then the sim froze immediately thereafter. I had to force quit. No error message. Lot a bugs, clearly. I love being a beta tester.

Same thing happens at different airports and with different planes on my setup. Interact with the ATC menu and then shortly afterwards get the DGXi error.

Beau Hollis posted on the P3D forum  "There is a known issue with ATC causing a device hung error. We are looking into it. "

The question is, how the heck is the ATC window crashing the graphics engine?

Looks like it is something to do with Scaleform. Perhaps vector graphics interfering with device function?

Yes, that is the $199 question. 😒  A quick 5-minute test flight would/should have uncovered this in testing.

What is Windows Event Viewer saying when you CTD? Most times I get a vcruntime140.dll error.

Why waste your time, money and resources when you know there's an army of people who will quite gladly PAY to beta test for you.

We are our worst own Enemy.

That is the exact error and memory location I am getting also. Are you using any yokes, etc? Yes, the ATC box flashes every few seconds (as well as the main menu bar at the top) for me also. I wish I had a good solution for you. I thought it may be related to something EditVoicePak (a utility to add voice airline names to the ATC function) had something to do with it since it happens only in ATC. I restored the original unmodified files but that didn't work either. I use a CH Products FS Yoke and it may be related to certain buttons that I have programmed to access ATC. Yesterday, I unprogrammed all ATC functions and actually completed a 500 mile flight from KDFW to KMSY. I am going to try another flight today.

If you could post your error on the LM site, I will add on to it. I tried posting a report on their site but got what I consider to be a snippy, obxious response from LM staff. Search on my name (Sky_King) and feel free to post there. It would be interesting to see if there is anything common between us since we get the exact same error. I am using Active Sky for v5 beta, Megascenery Photoscenery, EditVoicePak, all Flightbeam and FS Dreamteam airports, some LatinVFR airports, and freeware aircraft. For a variety of reasons I use a 2D cockpit.

P.

Mine was doing this until I updated to the current hotfix, haven't had it happen since.
