October 17, 200619 yr Go fly sublogic's flight simulator on the commodore 64... I hooked it up the other day, then went to a friends to play -- yes, play -- FSX.The frame rates were the same, but I felt like I got an upgrade in scenery. That's what everyone was looking for right?oh yeah, specs...Commodore 641541 Disk Drive300ohm to 75ohm adapter52" RCA HDTV:)
October 17, 200619 yr LOL You got it buddy! To be honest, that was the last version of FS that I REALLY spent a lot of time with (I've only dabbled a little with 98, 2000 and 2004). Maybe that's why I don't seem to have much of a problem of FSX dipping down into the 10-20 FPS range... Can't see the need for the super high frame rates!--2002cbr600f4i
October 17, 200619 yr Yeah, but what add-ons were you using in it? Seriously, I can't figure out what you are driving at? Don't buy FSX. Do you like FS9, if so, use it and enjoy it. I think everyone gets the point that FSX framerates are low. But thanks again for yet another reminder. Ian.
October 17, 200619 yr Ah yes the C-64. Those were the days. My first game wasn't the Sublogic simulator but M.U.L.E. Loved it.
October 17, 200619 yr sorry, but no.I have everything that i had gotten relating to flight sim still. most of it still works (except for 1 usa west disk for flight assignment: atp). It's one of my most prized possessions.
October 17, 200619 yr Joking aside, you know there is one area where the SubLogic flight sim definitely is superior to FSX, and yes I am being serious.I still have a copy of (forget which version it is, possibly 2 or 3) for the Commodore Amiga, and the manual that comes with it is still better than the documentation that comes with FSX, this is not a joke, it's really nice and would prove helpful to someone who wanted to learn to fly the Cessna 172 properly. And we all love proper paper maunuals, don't we? Sixty quid in MS's pocket I think deserves something other than the two pamphlets you get in FSX, I bet they could even reprint that SubLogic one with a few revisions and it would still be relevant.Don't get me wrong, I'm really liking FSX, but the paper documentation, or lack of it is shocking. October 17, 200619 yr The manuals for SubLogic FS II are superior to any since. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that back then, electronic documentation really wasn't very extant. October 17, 200619 yr I've still got all my stuff too. I still use the Commodore monitor with a tape deck TV tuner, for an extra TV. Still looks great too.Funny post.....Bob (Las Cruces, NM)
October 17, 200619 yr Author Commercial Member I would be very interested to know how much it cost to develop Flight Simulator II for the C-64/Apple, etc., versus how much it cost to develop FSX (using year 2006 US dollars as reference).I'm sure the difference is massive. It would also be interesting to compare the market size between the two.Perhaps this might explain a little bit the lack of a very expensive to produce printed manual in current video games?Chrs,Bryan B.
