October 17, 200619 yr I enclose here a passage from your url:"All of the features hardcore simmers have come to expect in the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise are here in spades, such as the entire world being modeled in exquisite detail;"Try taking a low flight up the Thames and judge whether that is 'exquisite detail'?See also my other thread entitled 'Global Warming hits the Thames'.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...&mesg_id=359032 Dave Taylor

October 17, 200619 yr Author Have you tried changing the season? One of the things I have noticed is that fsx seems to change seasons about 3 weeks early (at least compared to fs9).http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Is it because they are from Washington and not California? I expected more!(Warning - if you missed my sarcasim please step back a moment to reflect upon this converstaion, TY) Best,Randy J. October 17, 200619 yr >hahaa what a joke! >>i tend to not believe these reviews anymore there is no>substance to what they say. They did better with this review than they have with plenty of others I read. They covered the performance issue, which I was afraid they'd gloss over. For the record, I just bought FSX Deluxe a couple of hours ago and have spent all the time since tinkering. As-installed performance was absolute garbage. Frames were something like 3-4 fps at 1S0, which is well south of Seattle. Not to mention the obvious landclass issues. They have 1S0 in the middle of a forest, but they did include the golfcourse south of the field. Of course, that's the negative. The positive was the sunrise over the Cascades with full bloom, lens flare and everything else cranked up. Holy crap was that impressive!I've also applied the various tweaks, except the terrain texture fix (too impatient for that at the moment), plus brought over the UT Landclass BGLs. While the landclass appeared correct for the most part, it just looked wierd with the new textures. I know it's fall, but Washington is a state full of evergreens, and I was seeing proportionately too much fall leaf change. The yellowish terrain reminded me more of spring, with our Scotch Broom problem up here. I swear, it's the Pacific Northwest's version of kudzu! Anyway, I'm going to reserve final judgement until my hours in the sim are at least double digits. October 17, 200619 yr I'm confident most of the people complaining about missing this or that never attempted scenery design for FS. I created JUST the Orlando area (satellite scenery - no airports or anything else) for Fly! back in the day and I'll tell you that taught me a bunch about the respect for designers, paid to do it or not! It takes patience, skill, an artistic talent, and most of all, TIME.To recreate the whole World in FS is a task I couldn't even begin to imagine!Overall - job well done and FANTASTIC ACES! Thank You.
October 17, 200619 yr Tom, I've been a big FSX supporter, even though I don't have it yet. I've always believed they'd come though and produce, at a minimum, the same terrain features present in FS9. Namely lakes, rivers, islands (anyone look just north of Vancouver at all the missing islands between Vanc island and the mainland?)and correct landclass. Was I expecting too much? I don't think so.
October 17, 200619 yr Author I don't doubt you-I am just wondering if another season such as summer looks right? http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
October 18, 200619 yr If they got it right in FS9 why then was the totally different view given in FS10?Perhaps if they had sighted the statue of liberty 3 miles out to sea, might have caught your notice eh? Dave Taylor
