October 17, 200619 yr Here are some shots of the Thames in all its weird "glory":http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158823.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158824.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158825.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158826.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158827.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158828.jpgLondon Bridge has a muddy competitor :-lolhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158822.jpg(Sorry about the blurred image - I haven't installed FSX yet. I'm just compiling other people's screen shots!)Yes, I have told MS about it ;)ACES .... please fix it :). This is not an attack on FSX ... I just want these "objects" to disappear! Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
October 17, 200619 yr It seems to occur mostly at the bridges. I look as if this is the STRM data and the spikes causing the hills is the bridge height that was picked up.Come to think of it maybe we should check the sites woth lots of hi rise buildings. We might see hills in the terrain there because the shuttle data measured the buildings and returned them as hills.
October 17, 200619 yr ####, that Thames Flood Barrier sure seems to be more effective than most Londoners give it credit for. All the people at Henley will be thrilled to know they can now get a house insurance policy quote again. :-) Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

October 17, 200619 yr Author Commercial Member Hi all,it's actually a new "feature" in FSX that automatically turns water into rock textures if the water is steeper than a specific slope value (similar to the automatic switching to rock or other textures on steep land slopes). The reasoning for this given to us by ACES was that the new, detailed water data doesn't always match the terrain mesh, which, in mountainous areas, may lead to water climbing up hillsides. They figured that auto-switching to rock textures would mask these issues but, obviously, it created new ones for rivers like the Thames that have weirs or dams, or incorrect spikes in the radar-derived DEM data due to bridges.I know of a couple of people working on an alternative terrain.cfg file that removes this feature and adds other enhancements for better compatibility with FS9 add-ons. Should be available soon. The other option is to flatten the water bodies, with either horizontal or sloped flattens.Cheers, Holger
October 17, 200619 yr I'm surprise that Aces didn't check out major cities before releasing. Still, tweaking seems to be the favourite pastime around here!
October 17, 200619 yr I've got this too on mine. I love FSX, but this is just very dissapointing. Can't believe something like this can get missed....Mike - any comments ??RegardsEddyNorth Wales - UK
October 17, 200619 yr Author Commercial Member Hi there, actually, they did, as did many of us Beta testers. And we had "passionate" discussions about the pros and cons of this new approach. However, if you have a global feature, like this water-to-rock switch, then local "side effects" are difficult to address.Cheers, Holger
October 17, 200619 yr If you have UT Europe, Canada or USA there's a fix in the works to make it compatible with FSX which should help correct some of these water and coastline anomalies.http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=18886 System: Rysen 7-9700X, MSI Pro X870-P WiFi AM5 Motherboard, Team T-Force Delta 64 GB DDR5 6000 Mhz, Corsair RM1000x80 PLUS Gold, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Super Windforce 12GB OC, NVIDIA Drivers 610.47, 2TB WD Blue SN580 NVMe m.2 SSD for Windows 11 Home, 2TB WD Black SN850X NVMe m2 SSD for MSFS & Steam, LG 27GX700A-B 280 Hz OLED 27" 2560x1440 280Hz Monitor, Thrustmaster Airbus flight stick, Logitech M510 wireless Mouse.
October 17, 200619 yr Author Commercial Member Hi there, indeed but this will only get rid of the rocks in the water if the Thames is flattened by UT, instead of mesh-clinging as in default FSX. Don't recall off-hand whether it is.However, those changes to the terrain.cfg I mentioned earlier will fix those issues with or without UT, although the change will be global.Cheers, Holger
October 18, 200619 yr You are still lucky that Thames is there. In other countries there are no rivers (that were there in FS9!). :-(

October 18, 200619 yr PCPilot mag has a demo of VFR Terrain X, for FSX, I'll try it tonight as it should cover London and the Thames to see if it helps at all.I like FSX in a lot of ways but somehow I miss my co-pilot, so may go back to FS9 for my 'commercial' flying until they update lots of the add-ons.
October 18, 200619 yr Has 'Tower Bridge' been renamed then?reminds me of when America bought 'London Bridge' to reassemble over there and then was greatly dissapointed when they really wanted Tower Bridge instead but,the deal had already been done. Dave Taylor
