May 8, 20206 yr Many times I encounter a strange, blurry ground, while the autogen house and trees look normal. If I "stop" midair (pause the simulator) it takes up to 30 sec. until everything is loaded and better looking. I think I do have a really fast PC (see below) with all the latest drivers, incl. the latest Samsung NVMe 3.3 driver... Of course the PC was setup completely fresh before the P3Dv5 setup. Is there anything I could improve? I already tried to switch from 4096 to 2048, reduced some sliders, but it doesn't really help. May 8, 20206 yr That's the blurries. I know in 4.5 if you had that, your terrain couldn't keep up with the speed at which you're flying. If you're using an AM I'd suggest not using it for now. In 4.5 if you had blurries it meant your terrain cores were oversaturated. That was made worse if a person masked off too many cores (via AffinityMask) which were needed by their hardware, for terrain loading. Without seeing your slider settings it is difficult to advise as to what you can turn down, but if you're going to fly a jet at 300+ kts at low level with the slider settings you're running and your hardware, it appears to be too much for your hardware to handle. Since you are at 4.1 ghz you will probably have to compromise a bit to avoid blurries. Given the 4.1ghz you may have difficulty running vsync on with unlimited @ 30hz, which was the ticket to smoothness and sharpness. With v5 I'm still not yet sure if the same techniques work, and I don't know your refresh rate. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
May 8, 20206 yr Author Thank you. Just tried the same scenery (ORBX Germany North at around Berlin Tegel) with the Piper Cub at 70kn and have fewer issues. OK, it might be "to much" to use this photoreal ground. Will test it in some "rural region" with Orbx Global only. Affinity Mask: Noooooo. 10 years ago was the last time I tried that stupid thing. You can switch on and off as many cores as you like, it doesn't help in no way to improve the flightsim. Ralf If terrain is ok in the Piper Cub, then you might consider having two different configurations saved (in P3D's Display Settings... dialog). One config for fast jets, which will have lower settings and One config for slower aircraft, which has higher settings. Remember which sliders are cpu-intensive in P3Dv4.5 -- they might still be in P3Dv5...in which case these are the sliders you want to focus on: autogen buildings, autogen radius, traffic (all sliders), special effects slider (particularly the ocean wave fx). I have not tested any of those with v5 though. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
May 8, 20206 yr I find that on my setup, whether I go slow or fast, I'll get those kind of blurries anyway. Even with lowered settings. I went tweaking. I'm now running unlimited FPS, added the FFTF value of 0.50 so it spends more time loading scenery, limited the terrain purge to 1 instead of 16 and increased the texture bandwith multiplier to 120. Seeing a lot less blurries now, no more waiting for textures to load in on final after a single traffic circuit. Your mileage may vary and I'll probably do some more testing, this was just after 2-3 quick test flights that gave me blurries before. But it seems we may still need to dive into the cfg every now and then.

That gives P3D little time to load scenery, especially in a fast airplane. Either limit fps in the sim, or add an FFTF line in cfg... (0.15 or 0.20 should do it..) Bert
