P3Dv5 HF1 Clouds Move Too Fast Under EA

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Have you noticed that clouds move VERY fast under P3Dv5 HF1? Attached video shows cruising at FL 410 at about 500 kt ground speed. It is noticeable that the clouds are moving in the same direction as the aircraft but at a speed significantly higher than the aircraft. Weather engine is Active Sky for P3Dv5 Version 7448. Wind reading from the aircraft (QW787) shows 231 deg / 7 kt, so there should not be a meteorological reason for such fast moving clouds.

While I understand EA is in beta, is anyone else seeing such phenomena, or is LM aware of such issue?

Thank you,

ZC

Hi,

Do you have any weather program like Active Sky running?

none... ASP3D causes crashes, and FSGRW causes strong windshifts.
so lets wait for Hotfix2 from LM.

I have seen it.  Reported in their forum and acknowledged by another user.  I did not have saved logs so other than a comment to that point my post went unaddressed.  No official support for the beta anyways.

You can disable high altitude winds in FSGRW.

The cause is P3Dv5 ; I am sure that it will be fixed.

Can they be disabled in ASP3D for that matter?

Thanks.

Don’t know. I use FSGRW.

I remember ASP3D had setttings for strength of the turbulence . Perhaps there is something too for high altitude winds.

i knew that, but i will not fly without winds. when realt weather, then it should be really real!
so i use standard Beta, and set my weather in P3Dmenu, what allowed more then 2 cloudlevels. most i use 5...

Curious to see if the new beta fixes the issue.

I really do not think it was the actual winds as much as a (maybe related) visual glitch.  Although the layers moving faster than my aircraft were always below me I never encountered super strength winds at any levels climbing, descending or cruising.  Cruising at 0.80M to 0.84M and the speed the clouds were passing in my case they would have been over 1.0M.

Quick work around that I use when the clouds start moving fast... On the Menu Bar click Help > About Lockheed Martin Prepar3d. When it shows the that box i click the X and it stops the clouds moving fast without the risk of crashing the sim.

CAI - I have never noticed this problem. I only use modified True Sky with EA and the P3DWX (freeware) weather engine.
