May 31, 20206 yr This has never happened before, but noticed it keeps on going off track every once in awhile. I have to manually disengage the autopilot, re-engage and turn on AP back on for it to get back on course. Does anyone know the cause of this? It's frustrating, especially when doing long haul flights. May 31, 20206 yr If you're using the latest ActiveSky beta, it's probably this bug: https://forums.hifisimtech.com/threads/beta-3-using-wx-radar-in-pmdg-747-results-in-lost-connection-loss-of-control.12457/
May 31, 20206 yr Unfortunately while ActiveSky beta might be an issue what is for sure is that PMDG 747 -8 (400) have many operational issues related to the A/P, LNAV and other systems which apparently they don't care to fix them. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.
May 31, 20206 yr Author That's exactly what it is! Thanks guys. I also had a feeling it had to do with the latest Active Sky, because I never had this issue before updating to the latest beta. I can duplicate this in many instances with or without ActiveSky beta. Unfortunately some settings in ActiveSky will get any airplane going wild in certain conditions, but this one is a knowing problem with the LNAV on PMDG 747 products. The other airplanes with FMC in LNAV don't wonder around the sky in LNAV. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

May 31, 20206 yr Well, that's good news. Many people complained about it. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

June 1, 20206 yr @captain420 In your case, I think that there is a combination between a known problem where PMDG 747 has an issue that at certain waypoints that is not following the magenta line and sometimes will go in circles plus some settings in AS. Do you remember if you had any CAT prior your altitude loss? @fluffyflops I'm looking at your pictures and it looks like a clear case of CAT. I would check AS settings under wind options and set: Maximum wind turbulence to no more than 50% Turbulence effect scale to no more than 25% Maximum wind shear to no more than 25%. IMHO (and as a real pilot) I think that their settings are very aggressive plus that this is not a real simulator/aircraft while there are also limitations within the simulator. I'm also using AS B3 (I'm not dismissing that people have problems and I'm not affiliated with AS), I don't suffer of any issues related to the weather, but unfortunately there are big issues with the latest version of the PMDG 747 being buggy. June 1, 20206 yr I have seen the 737NGX fly a small loop when on a straight heading to the (INTC) waypoint of a SID. In fact, I have seen it do one or two strange things in my time, including nose dive into the ground executing the Dopek 2W SID when departing runway 32 at EGNM Leeds Bradford. I really need to check that one out again.....
