CPU Update : AMD or Intel ?

Would you recommend paring an AMD CPU and a nVidia card? I'm assuming he's going to have an AMD GPU as well.

Yes, would absolutely recommend an Nvidia GPU.
Why assume anything?

There's nothing restricting the choice of running AMD CPU and Nvidia GPU (my signature proves that).

Team Green has a stronger line-up and I've found their cards are more resilient for Flight Simming, albeit more expensive than Team Red.

Yes, I'm obviously flaming because I disagree with you. All of my comments have been about the subject at hand. Remind me, who said the following:

Was that me or you?

I had a top of the line AMD CPU and GPU and it ran P3D like garbage. And I'm allowed to say that.

My recommendation would be Intel.

Thanks.

Dear Mike,

I will try again just for the sake of conversation...

1. The OP asks about CPU's for he's build.

Now imagine 50 answers, 25 telling Intel stank and 25 telling AMD stank. What does the OP get from these 50 answers?

I tend to say that such answers are "more or less pointless" or useless since they fail to provide any numbers or specs or other informations that would help the OP in he's decisions. This was not an attack no'r an insult n'or anything else but a pure and basic reply based on the facts you provided.

2. You fail to understand that fluidity is more important then higher FPS which I tried to explain but you kept your attitude. You make statements like "way, way, way, way, way higher settings, excellent performance" again providing nill facts about your settings n'or system spec.

3. You replied to @F737NG with a link targeting GPU'S not CPU's which is again a miss!

4. With your latest post you seam to be surprised that you can easily pair any Red or Blue CPU with any Red or Green GPU which makes me wonder why I even bother to reply.

What's there more to say?

Wish you pleasent flights and pure enjoyment with your sim and system.

Keep safe and always tree greens.

BR,

Gerald

ASUS do for Intel CPU`s if you check test results,

As for AMD, HWINFO app has been updated due to MB reporting less power allowing the CPU to run higher and hotter a than AMD recommend your choice of course.

I would say looking at the issues with AMD GPUs in V5 etc it would seem that Nvidia is still the best choice although you are obviously paying a premium. If flight sim is just a sometimes thing and you play a lot of other titles more frequently it would be worth it to see which brand performs better.

i have a 3600 paired with a 2070 super and it works extremely well both in 2d and VR. Patiently waiting for a Ryzen 7 in the 4000 series to come out and will swap to it.

I just wanted to point out the fact that MB manufacturers "cheat" on both platforms just to get the performance crown.

It's a good information you provided regarding AMD. I generaly don't OC and I will surely overthink my decision for the next build.

Thank you.

PS: Before hearing about the Ryzen 2 refresh, I was 80% going towards the i5 10600k (because it's stock clocks)

I am not taking one side against the other, do your own research when setting up your PC you have so many variations to take account of.

I post links in hope that users become more informed about hardware due to the big outlay it can be.

All fair, Gerald. And if you'll entertain a final reply from me, I will say this:

When I looked at a new PC for P3D a year ago, I came upon the exact same scenario as the OP. And the comparison between the two CPUs I was looking at was virtually a mirror image (in terms of relative performance) between the two CPUs the OP is looking at. In fact, here is that comparison I made at the time:

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-8700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-3800X/3098vs3499

Compare that to what @F737NG posted showing the choice facing the OP:

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/AMD-Ryzen-5-3600X-vs-Intel-Core-i5-9600KF/3494vs3443

Relatively speaking, the numbers are the same. The AMD has a faster core speed, much, much better at multicore/multitasking, cheaper, newer. And guess what? It ran P3D like (word not allowed). Period. And that was paired with an RX580. Do you want to know just how bad it was? It was so bad that I went out and bought another PC with an 8700k/1080 combo a week later to run the sim. And that has run P3D like a dream since day one. Smooth, high settings, great framerates. I've added scenery and software and hardware and it just keeps right on running beautifully.

So while I appreciate your position and opinions and numbers and the bit about what you heard from "a guy you know", I have been in the OP's position and I have run P3D v4 on both systems, and the clear winner, by a country mile, was the Intel system.

So you can show me all the technical data you want - I've seen it, and I used it to make the same decision facing the OP. And I chose the system with the better numbers. And guess what? It was the wrong decision. The numbers don't mean squat. And you can tell me all you want about your experience running P3D on one of the two systems - I've run it on both. And you can of course tell me all about the guy you know. And you can rap on about "smoothness". Smoothness is subjective, framerates are not.

At the end of the day, I didn't feel like a 3-page discussion or a 1,500-word post was required. AMD stank, Intel was great. End of story. You may not like conciseness, but some people do. My post wasn't pointless, it was to the point. There's a difference.

I gave my opinion, you gave yours. I hope the OP is satisfied with his choice.

Mittlerweile, schöne Grüße aus HH,

Dein,

Mike

Could the rx580 have been holding it back, especially in P3D vs a GTX 1080? 1080 is like 50% faster...pretty significant out of the box difference

Certainly could have.
