MSFS2020 - zero rotorcraft?

Featured Replies

Track IR is immensely helpful for spatial awareness in flying helos.

I managed to get a great .cfg and .air file for the bell JetRanger which basically made it very easy to hover and operate.

Wondering why helicopters are totally absent from MSFS2020.  Even if you get the premium edition not one to be found in all 30 vehicles you get....bummer.

They are building a new sim up from scratch on everything and have focused on a motorized aircraft flight architecture first. This is something they have said from early on. No real surprise here.  There is no glider either.  They would come later. Time will tell.

All this fantastic new scenery it would be a shame not to have helicopters. Here's hoping.

Flying Helos in ESP;

1) Throw away your controller sensitivities for fixed wing. They need to be put in to "pin-sharp" mode. That's zero on the sensitivity and zero on the waggle factor. You'll be making inputs of a few millimetres to here - then there - then over there. The controller needs to instantaneously keep up with your inputs.

2) Realism Settings - 50% - not full left Easy - not full right Difficult but right in the middle - no negotiation on that or it won't work. That's the quirkiness of ESP - and we love it.

4) Know your winds. Keep in to wind at all times. Fixed wing is easier on this point. Helos are not. For training purposes set yourself up with an 8 Kts steady sock and always keep the aircraft pointed at it. Everything will be better. The moment you turn your back on the wind in the helo you'll suffer a loss of control and your inputs will need to be those of an expert.

Remember; The wind direction rules the flight dynamics; Into wind - easy'ish. Wind at any other quadrant relative to you equals; "Opps, Ughhh! Owww. That hurt."

3) Loads? - Just you in the cockpit? - 50% fuel and no other persons onboard.

4) At least 15 hours  and that's a conservative estimate of required Hobbs - to get the "differences" between fixed wing and rotary. Don't despair - it can be done. And you will do it.

5) If you have A2A Accusim - turn it Off, Off, Off.

I'm going to write a little essay on this tonight and post a tutorial in the morning (Zulu time +1) - with YT Video,  on this thread.

Enough of this "crashing in to stuff on landing" as some have bravely owned up to! 😉

If you get things set up right and are prepared to invest some hours - then helos can be so much fun in ESP.

Let's do that. Get a good night's sleep wherever you are.

You're going to need it.

Tomorrow you're flying helicopters without crashing them!

The same reason there's no trackIR support currently... they're out of time, and they're pushing out whatever they have.

Is no TrackIR Confirmed?

But you get Shock Ultra aircraft with ridiculously low speed of like 18 mph, high wing, ideal platform to view the scenery low and super slow. it is actually almost better than a helicopter.

Now listen Dog - get back in your basket and get your head down.

Until you have flown rotary wing in ESP - without crashing in to stuff - you will not know the joy of hovering.

Fixed-wing/ Rotary-wing - Not the same.

It's like the difference between your wet doggy food and your dried doggy food.

Alright?

Good Dog.
