I lucked out and was able to run all four sticks at 3600 CAS15. My previous 8086K wouldn't do it with the same four sticks...it had to be slowed down or the CAS raised to get all four of them stable on that CPU with the Z390 chipset. The 10900K and the Maximus XII Z490 combo had no issue running with all four at XMP. I think I'd probably have gone looking for something like a 4000 MHz CAS 17 2x16GB kit if I didn't already have these four very solid GSkill DIMMs already. Hey Bob I have the same board and CPU inbound. I’m not going to build it up yet until I decided on the 3080 or 3090 for video. I tried the extra 2 sticks of 3600 and ran into the same issues as you. So from your findings I should have and issue on the Z490? I’m still looking for a 4000 MHz 32GB kit. Did you happen to have one you were eyeing as a backup. September 4, 20205 yr Author Well, all I can say for sure is that I had no issue with all four DIMMs running at XMP in the Maximus XII, where all four on the 8086K on the Maximus XI didn't work at XMP (but two at a time had no issues). They did run OK derated to 3600 CAS 16 on the Z390 board, though. Mix-and-match of different kits, even of the same type is always something of a crapshoot. No specific 4000 MHz kit...never got to shopping stage. September 10, 20205 yr Hey Bob Decided to go with Patriot Viper Steel 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 4400. I ordered two kits for 32gb total. Really good reviews on this stuff. I don't remember what GPU you're running now, but I'd surmise that non-reference AIB graphics cards like a 20GB 3080 won't be around for months still, and AFAIK their eventual production is still a matter of speculation. It'd be *really* hard for me to leave that rig sitting idle for that long waiting...transplanting your GPU from the other rig isn't a lot of work. September 22, 20205 yr I have no problems waiting as the old rig is still running fine. The GPU I currently run is a EVGA 1080ti FTW3. Sure I could transplant but I don’t mind waiting. I think we are closer to a 3080 20gb sooner than you think. If push comes to shove I will get a 3080 10gb to hold me over and then move it to the gaming rig later when a 20gb version releases.
