Interpreting MS FS 2020 System Specs

I as well am preparing to build a new system this Fall but want to wait for newer GPU's as well.  My current concern is that  the minimum spec is Windows 10 version 18362.0 or higher.

My current system is stuck on Windows 10 version 17763.437 (1809) and refuses to update.  Windows Update fails with Error 0x80070005.  I have on multiple occasions exhausted every suggested fix for that error I can find.  Even Microsoft's Windows 10 Update Repair Tool fails to correct the error.  So I have no idea what influence that will have on MSFS 2020.

I had this same problem with a i5-4460. Also tried the update repair tool, and a lot of things, but no success. Upgraded to ryzen 5 3600 and now windows update is ok.

In one of the interviews with the developers (can't remember but it might have been with a German gaming site or at the X019 event) they said the sim can handle "as many cores as you can throw at it". I think they were the exact (possibly translated) words. Someone here can probably dig out the quote. In addition, the following has been posted somewhere on the Internet and is supposedly for one of the alpha builds whilst flying over central London.

15% 😂😂😂😂

Even Zwift uses more than this on my rig.

New PC Ryzen 9850X3D - 32gb ddr5 6000Mhz - MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk wifi - Gigabyte wind force gaming OC 5090 - 2TB Sabrent NVMe. Old PC - Ryzen 5900x - 32gb 3600Mhz RAM - Asus Strix X570-F Motherboard - ASUS TUF OC RTX 3090 - 1TB Sabrent NVMe. AOC AGON 32" 144Hz - Honeycomb Yoke - Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog. T Flight Rudder Pedals - Trackir.

If the utilization graph above is true, that would be just insane. Looks to be GPU bound, and can also see the need for >16 GB of RAM...

Exactly! That is what everyone has been trying to subtly say so as to not break NDA!

Also the reason I am waiting on Vermeer and RTX 30xx and willing to sit on an 8 year old processor for the near term. No need to rush out.

I don’t know if the graph is true, but I have no reason to doubt it or the technical competence of the person who did it. One of the developers did say in an interview that there’s not much for the CPU to do since so much of the sim is more efficiently handled by the GPU. Perhaps adding might add a bit more load to the CPU. But my prediction is, more cores won’t hurt so an AMD is very attractive but put your money into a beefy GPU and system RAM. Personally I’m holding off for the new AMD CPUs and 3000 series Nvidia cards to be released and then build a new system. By then thee should be some in-depth system analysis of the sim’s performance.

Mr. Howard who thought too many airports was too confusing

Sounds like classic example of Peter principle with the last step removed. Described as advancing a person to their point of incompetency and backing them up one step. In that case they did not back him up one step! jmpo

Thank you, greatly appreciate the input. A great day to you and yours.
