Unless things have greatly changed since I was last concerned about drivers and game performance, this can have a very significant effect on performance. Hopefully Asobo have coordinated with Nvidia and AMD to get optimized drivers released on or soon after release. I've been wondering if MSFS is popular enough to get into a new video driver. Most of the games NVidia seems to talk about in their driver updates are action games.

July 28, 20205 yr @goat, I curious to what you might have to say about Aces closing in 09 and Flight did not come out untill1912? J. R.

No wonder we were all having trouble with FSX not using multi cores etc. The jet engine hadn't even been invented when ACES closed... 🍻 Mark Robinson Part-time Ferroequinologist Author of FLIGHT: A near-future short story (ebook available on amazon) I made the baby cry - A2A Simulations L-049 Constellation Sky Simulations MD-11 V2.2 Pilot. I would wait until the retail version is out before we start making assumption on how the game will perform. Asobo haven't played the release build. They are still developing it, hence the testing in alpha and beta phases. The build will be changing regularly, with each new iteration rolled out to the testers as bug fixes are implemented.

After FSX was released ACES was working on rebuilding the engine to make better use of multiple cores, and some of this work was originally going to debut in the next TrainSim, which also met an unceremonious fate alongside ACES. I seem to recall that the Flight project started off well enough and was following along in the footsteps of its predecessors, and was making use of at least some of those improvements. However, as it wasn't a ground up re-write, like the new sim is, and probably had a relatively limited budget and timeline, they weren't able to make major design changes. Then, of course, there was the massive change in direction under Mr. Howard who thought too many airports was too confusing, and the inevitable failure of the entire project. In all of the excitement and acrimony about Flight, people seemed to miss or not notice that there were still improvements to the flight modelling and other aspects of the sim. We just never got to really see the sim fully take advantage of them. Developing a properly multi-threaded application is not always easy or straight forward. Some applications, like web and database servers, can be relatively easily updated while others, like games, can't. Your request to the Avsim web server and my request can easily be separated and processed individually, for example. In a game, everything is more directly connected in some fashion and must be managed properly, or bad things happen. It's a major change that needs to be part of the development process from the beginning. FSX started before they had a chance to know better, and Flight didn't have the budget or time to fully make the changes.

By the end of the project he seemed to have a good handle on the realities of flight simming. Flight was described as "a serious simulator in a candy shell." Flight failed because Microsoft was going to the RT operating system, and "it would take a year to convert Flight to RT" (quote by a developer on the beta forums). Then RT failed. Because, imagine what would have happened if the free part of Flight had been on every Windows install. Sort of a super Minesweeper. They'd have reached a huge audience and eventually sold a lot of DLC, especially at the low prices they were charging. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! He may have at least somewhat come around, but it was too late by then as they had driven off all third party add-on developers. 5 minutes ago, LHookins said: Flight failed because Microsoft was going to the RT operating system, and "it would take a year to convert Flight to RT" (quote by a developer on the beta forums). Then RT failed. I don't doubt that Microsoft were looking at bringing it to Windows RT, but Windows RT was never meant to fully replace Windows running on x86/x64. It was meant to allow for better tablets to compete with iPads. Then again, Microsoft was floundering around all over the place at the time trying to catch up with the latest trends in gaming, smartphones and tablets. Having the basic free version installed with every copy of Windows could have been great, provided there was a proper full version to move up to.

I doubt it was ever intended to be a world simulator. The next area they were going to release was the Grand Canyon. Hawaii was excellent, Alaska a bit less so. With MSFS we can fly anywhere in the world, but we're still limited in what aircraft are available. 😄 Microsoft Flight had an excellent selection of aircraft with cockpits, they were just missing the heavies, which offended a certain segment of the simming community. I do remember there being many involved, though this seemed to be more in the vein of MS commissioning them to build aircraft for the sim. However, I also remember that the sim started as a more open project before being locked down and changing direction. After this, I also recall many developers balking at the idea of independently developing for the sim due to the way they had been treated and the terms MS was offering. 28 minutes ago, LHookins said: With MSFS we can fly anywhere in the world, but we're still limited in what aircraft are available. 😄 Microsoft Flight had an excellent selection of aircraft with cockpits, they were just missing the heavies, which offended a certain segment of the simming community. The big difference is that MSFS will allow third parties to bring additional aircraft to the sim from the start, like FSX and prior did. With Flight, MS didn't and realized too late that they had made a mistake. It's because of Asobo's approach mirroring that of FSX rather than Flight that I am cautiously optimistic that MSFS will be successful in the long run.

Even purchased two software utilities that rang up in web searches on how to fix the issue. All to no avail. I believe when I last created it as a clone I may have innocently selected "the other" type. Seems it was not a FAT32 vs NTFS selection. Is was some other option that Acronis presented. I cannot recall what it was. But my last successful update was the day before I made the clone, and now the year+ old source system SSD I used at the time now will also not update. Lots of hours of frustration with no success. And I use to loath Windows Updates.....
