The reason is the resolution. The difference is incredible. The new G2 is said to have an even clearer picture and if that is true I agree with the "next generation" tag HP has put on it because the Reverb v2 is already unmatched in terms of resolution among consumer headsets. So if they are actually able to improve it even more in this regard I can't see how any headset would beat that. Of course resolution isn't everything but at least for me it's the most important factor because I think VR headsets need to be good in terms of resolution and clarity first (while not being too hard on performance) before starting to go into FOV, e. g. I have not tried the V2. Was actually pretty satisfied with my Rift S using PD 1.5. But, as you say, the difference should be pretty significant! How is the performance in your system? August 2, 20205 yr IMHO, the Reverb G1 Ver2 was just not that good. Yes, the resolution increase over my OG Rift and the Rift S was noticeable, especially for reading cockpit instruments, but the ridiculous mura on the Reverb G1 Ver2 detracted from most of that resolution bump. I even ran up to 127% supersampling in SteamVR, and while that helped to somewhat offset the mura, the performance hit was substantial on my 1080Ti. Not to mention that the colors were super washed-out, especially compared to the beautiful OLED on the original Rift, and the sweet spot was rather small. Audio was nothing to write home about either. And the heavy cable and poor controllers made the whole package feel even more like a beta version. I returned within 48 hours of receiving it. Now, the Reverb G2 looks like it will solve most/all of these issues, and the colors from the MRTV episodes look, well, stunning. As such, I pre-ordered. Such an easy decision and so excited for the official support. -Elliot Edited August 2, 20205 yr by Eman Intel Core i9 10900k @ 5.1 GHz / Asus Maximus Hero XII / Nvidia RTX 3090 FE / 32 GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 CL16-16-16-36 / Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB NVMe / Noctua NH-D15 / EVGA Supernova 1600 T2 / Honeycomb Alpha Yoke / CH Pro Pedals / Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant / HP Reverb G2

Let's see if the difference is that significant when compared with my Rift S. I´m on the same boat, but preordered at 599 euros. I have a Rift S but the previews of the G2 are trully impressive. August 3, 20205 yr Just pre-ordered the Reverb G2. Unfortunately, I wasn‘t aware of the discount that ended just a few days ago🙄. I‘ve never flown VR before, I only tried out racing and arcade games. I couldn‘t bring myself to buy a headset because of the low resolutions and the high prices, but now with MSFS entering the stage and a new generation of headsets I thought it‘s time to take the plunge. I hope it‘ll be as exciting as I imagine. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2

I hope it‘ll be as exciting as I imagine. I think you will really enjoy it. It gives me some of the same sensations (in my stomach) that I have when in an actual plane. I will be particularly interested to hear if you or others feel that the lower FOV of this unit impacts in any noticeable way the sensation of size scale that you get in VR. I'm still using the Occulus Rift CV1 and very much enjoying it but I can see how you and others might have been bothered by the lower resolution. If you are into racing games/simulators as well, VR is fantastic for them. I think it's particularly impressive for Dirt Rally 2 and makes a big immediate improvement in your driving skills because you gain much better anticipation of upcoming turns (it's great for Assetto Corsa as well).
August 3, 20205 yr @Flying Fisherman I guess that I won‘t be able to give an account on FOV since I don‘t have enough experiences with other headsets but l’ll be happy to report my impressions when I get my hands on it. And thanks for the tips. I think I might try some racing games. I‘ve never been that much into racing genre but this might change now. I‘m happy for any recommendations since, as far as I know, VR support in games isn‘t that popular yet. That was another reason why I never bought a headset. Most (or even all) of the other games I play don‘t have VR support. I hope it gets more mainstream in the future. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2

Can't wait to hear what everyone thinks when they are able to try MSFS VR with the Reverb G2 - expletives expected!. I'd highly recommend getting yourself a steering wheel and pedal set for racing if you don't already have them, just as important as good controllers for flight simming. Fanatec gear is really good if you can afford it. Assetto Corsa (and Competizione) and Dirt Rally 2.0 are my favorites for realism but I'm not sure that they support WMR. Project Cars 2 does though so maybe start with that. I'm getting off flight sim topic so if you want to know more drop me a message - I love talking about this stuff! I'm using stereo mode in v5 because it's the only way to enable Enhanced Atmospherics in VR at this point which is a bit of a performance killer. I don't use any supersampling. 3 hours ago, Flying Fisherman said: Can't wait to hear what everyone thinks when they are able to try MSFS VR with the Reverb G2 - expletives expected!. Why expletives?

I found this pretty recent article: https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/news/game/hp-reverb-g2-release-date-3793586/ Don't know how accurate it is, but it seems to indicate that HP hadn't actually confirmed a release date yet, so maybe UK retailers were a little optimistic giving early fall release dates? If it makes you feel any better, I'm in a worse boat than you I think. 2 days ago the computer I was going to use for MSFS packed it in - motherboard failure (I smelled the burnt electronics). ASUS ROG Strix machine that was less than 2 years old! Now I'm waiting at least 3 weeks for a new desktop. Decided to fork up the money for an Alienware this time and sure hope the quality is better. All of you are going to be enjoying the release of MSFS on Aug 18th and I'm going to be watching from the sidelines :(
