Where is fog?

So can we have a clear statement here? Is it possible to set an RVR of say, 300 meters and have that accurately shown in the simulator?

Cheers, Jan

yes interesting, but then we can see for ourselves in a few week, patience  grasshopper, is a saying that comes very often to my minds these days  haha

fog has always been a prob in flightsims, but active weather managed to do it decently.

the weather boys calimed it could handle évery' weather situation....well i doubt if thats ever going to happen (tornadoes).

for me, i just wait it out and see for myself.

Last time I checked it was on the Tyne:

As you'd imagine not exactly what (where) I was looking for, but gave me a laugh anyway 😅

Thank you, obviously one of the few who get the point of this apparently highly complex, out-of-the-world question. Seems people are so intoxicated by stunning visuals they stopped thinking about a possible IFR training tool altogether. The issue remains, just as the question remains unanswered.

Maybe watch this guy playing with the weather for at least a partial answer....... (At around 9 minutes, for the impatient)

Thank you! Interesting video. No fog or visibility settings in there. As a partial answer I take there are none. It’s the feeling I’m starting to get anyway. However I still resist to believe it. Really can’t imagine sitting there after the 18th fiddling around with the settings and not being able to get something as simple as precise CATII/III conditions in a highly praised next-gen flight sim. Hilarious. Time will tell.

Thank you! Very good insights. Unfortunately no news regarding the topic. Keep them coming though.

Fog has been discontinued.

if its not in the default sim, that leaves room for parties like active sky to make it happen.

That‘s exactly what I don’t want and expect from a current tech next-gen sim. No hacks, no workarounds. Not for such basic functionality. Not for a sim that stands out for its weather system.

I can't understand this afraid. Because fog (or limited visibilty) is a very simply graphic operation, it can show every older 3D game, include every previous version of sims. There isn't any reason, why MSFS will can't simulate it. And why nobody show it? Maybe it isn't so atractive pics. But we can saw many pics with limited visibility in rain etc. I'm sure, that limited RVR will simulate, if you want.

luckily you can try it out for just one euro/dollar for a month. (gamepass)

its ridiculous to expect everything thing in right from the start, not going to happen.

you want fog, others want helis, gliders, replay etc etc  the sim when it comes out will be a work in progress, it will be far

from a finished product.

and addons are going to be  a must for the real simmers, no doubt about that.

so my advice, try it out and then decide or wait .

As far as a simple graphic operation, I can't comment on that. Certainly it's been in all sims I have used in the past decades. But with all the praise the wx system has received and all its major advertising of how it can handle and simulate all kinds of situations, I hope you're not being serious. Yes I can expect that from the very start, just as I can expect a night and day cycle or planes with wings. This is not about helis or other specialities like replay, but rather about a super basic and most common meteorological phenomenon that needs to be adjustable in a precise manner for efficient IFR training. It's completely irrelevant if I can try it out for a buck or not. I could also read a review of the RTM/RTW to find out what's in and what's not, that won't help the issue either.
