July 31, 20205 yr Because the developers said they look into the cumunity i just want to pin it here. There is so much beauty and eye candy in the visuals already. The athmospheric appearance, in conjunction with the the new, satelite-based terrain looks in fact "As real as it gets". And of course the weather systems we have seen already are so breathtaking. Accept for the nearby clouds. The clouds i have seen in the newest videos are looking more like smoke rather than clouds. The clouds shown more far away look real so far, but if you look at the clouds right around you they look like cigare smoke. Please this realy needs to be fixed or will you rest this on people like HIFI and REX. The issue is, that you can have nearly 99.9 percent perfectly real, and then you hit a visual hickup like this and it distroyes the whole immersion in a second. LM has good experience with those small issues, when they remember the shitstorm that came up about CTD´s, not compatible add-on´s, etc. when they released V5, instead of getting honored for the new DX12 performance and the new visual athmosphere. You know as we say in Germany: "the lack of blame is raise enough" and of course we WILL talk alot more about things not right, rather then vice versa, after the release.😉 Edited July 31, 20205 yr by BerndB typo Bernd P3D V6 - PC spec: Intel i9-9900 overclocked 5 GHz HT off, 32 GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX3090 24GB, 2xM2 SSD, Skalarki HomeCockpit and Jeehell FMGS on a dedicated Server, PF3 for ATC, MCE, GSX, EFB, AS+ASCA+ENV and OrbX
July 31, 20205 yr You're right. Plus with ActiveSky there's such an effect that simulates the clouds passing by the windshield. That would be awesome as well. Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved
July 31, 20205 yr Are you for real? The clouds are looking amazing. What are all these sudden threads picking on the strangest of things all of a sudden? If your watching youtube videos, the video compression will make clouds look a little different when your flying through them. Perhaps thats what where your referring?
July 31, 20205 yr Author We 41 minutes ago, Theboot100 said: Are you for real? The clouds are looking amazing. Well, they may look amazing but not as real as they should, as they look in reality. Sometimes whilst in the air you can also see thin layers of cyrrus clouds looking sometimes like smoke. But Cumulus cloud never look like smoke. Especially on the new Videos from the developer update, where the Extra dives into the clouds, they look more as they come out of an industry chimney. But this is only the case for the cloudmodels near your position. The rest look´s already great. An this has nothing to do with video compression, it´s seems more to be an issue of the particle-lod radius and/or the mipmapping. July 31, 20205 yr They look perfectly fine to me. I think it would be better for Asobo to focus on other parts of the sim that need more attention. Clouds are subjective and no matter what they change there will always be someone who does not like them for one reason or another.
July 31, 20205 yr I've not seen any vids with bad looking clouds close up yet? I've seen many different kinds of clouds, some fluffy, some wispy, but clouds have variety in real life as well. I guess for myself, compared to what we've had in sims up until this point, the clouds in MFS seem utterly amazing to me. Now the missing water landing effects, THATS an area where I'd love to see huge improvements! Edited July 31, 20205 yr by Mengy
July 31, 20205 yr The clouds look pretty good to me to be honest. Are they absolutely perfect? Nope! But they very good indeed. With regard to the OP complaining about the ones on the footage of the Extra spiraling down into them, I'd say that with the exception of literally the last second of that clip where there is - just for a second - a bit of weird colouration on the translucent cloud against the sky, there's not very much to complain about at all. Even that (if I'm being really picky) last second of that clip with the slight odd colour on one thin cloud could conceivably be explained by refraction effects anyway. So in my opinion, it is a pretty-near perfect depiction of those kind of conditions. And trust me on this one, being from the UK, I've flown in and out of clouds, when piloting stuff over the north of England, more times than most people have had hot dinners, because it rains so much here, it's like being in flipping Blade Runner, so I certainly do know what flying in and out of clouds looks like in real life. Alan, you´re right, and in general i totally agree. But why stuck in imperfection when the step to perfection is as small as here. The difference what makes smoke look like smoke and clouds look like clouds is very subtile indeed. (of course i´am not talking about that kind of smoke which comes from an burning oil-rig) It´s just need a little refinement of the particle system. At least that i had the feeling while looking at those samples, there there is something not right, tells me there isn´t. P.S. of course you have that much of rain in our Majesty´s Great Britain, because there is weathersystem above which is even completly independent from the rest of the world. 😜 (i know you british people like humor) Edited July 31, 20205 yr by BerndB Bernd P3D V6 - PC spec: Intel i9-9900 overclocked 5 GHz HT off, 32 GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX3090 24GB, 2xM2 SSD, Skalarki HomeCockpit and Jeehell FMGS on a dedicated Server, PF3 for ATC, MCE, GSX, EFB, AS+ASCA+ENV and OrbX
July 31, 20205 yr Looking at all these movie clips showing clouds, especially the ones that resemble the CBs I find them to be too dark gray or too much contrast (color-wise) and they look more like a volcano (ash) that just erupted. See this please Edited July 31, 20205 yr by killthespam Clouds color clip 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.
July 31, 20205 yr Yes exactly, it does look like volcano ash (CB). Because of his color but also because of the feeling that it’s a lot of small cloud next to each other.
July 31, 20205 yr If there's one thing in FS2020 that I thought would not be poo pooed, it was the clouds. Looks like I know nothing about the psychology of poo pooers.
July 31, 20205 yr Never in my 30 years of flight sim'ing have I had the misfortune of reading so many negative things. This sim is the start of a new era and all you read is (not allowed) about "i see a guy with a 2080Ti is not holding 60 FPS with all max setting over NY in 4K..it's terrible!, and now the clouds look bad, Really. Sick to death of the endless nick picking and 90% of it is from people that are not even Alpha/beta testers. This forum is grim reading when people should be overjoyed at this new start in flight sim'ing. I have not flown a GA in years but will enjoy and look forward to really exploring the "real" world in a GA for the first time within this sim. Happy to wait 6 month before the big airliners hopefully start coming out. Will carry on using and enjoying P3Dv5 for my loved airlines, but I have a terrible feeling after doing GA flights the world within v5 is going to look very dated and grim. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism but OMG the balance to that is...let's just say is lacking.....to say the least. I can't wait to begin my new journey of discovery and after watching a video of a GA flying over venice I ask what on earth do you want? It's the "start" and you should be over the moon its happening. Edited July 31, 20205 yr by Nyxx David Murden. July 31, 20205 yr They are world's better than the other sims, not just because of their appearance, but their ability to build into fronts, anvils, squall lines, etc. The cloudscapes, especially when you get above a layer are like nothing we've ever seen before. Complaints about coloring will always exist. I don't think it's a priority right now, though they will no doubt get tweaked in the future.
