Chock, that's nothing.

ATC communication completely unrealistic. There is no such "push back accepted......."

Preflight on the -8 total inexistent, overhead panel, MCP panel the whole setup is a joke .

Before starting the engines he's requesting taxi, it doesn't work like that.

Reverser positions during start up for 1 & 4 are stowed but for 2 & 3 are in idle detent position.

OAT is +18C and he turned NAI and WAI on

Is taxing out and t.o. with flaps 5.

RTO is off.

Is flying VFR over FL180

I don't know what is going on here, how is that possible for a video like this to make the news. It's not that enough that this guy doesn't know what is he doing, there are so many flaws related to the MSFS2020 ATC and aircraft performance in this particular case.

What happened here?

I dearly hope that this video was not approved by the Asobo, I'm shocked what I witnessed and really worried by now.

Lol, you know you can do ALL of those things in a copy of p3d or xplane, and the default atc is even worse, not better.  Go find some pearls to clutch,  not everyone is virtual Sully.

If the seatbelt light switches aren't modeled, can you really even call it a sim?

Oh don't get me wrong, having had a pilot's licence since 1997, I do find it a bit galling to see a large numbers of beta testers who've clearly just put themselves down for it to get a freebie go at it, and who evidently have no more idea of how to fly an aeroplane, nor any interest in trying to learn either (which is the real issue I have), than I have on how to build a time machine. So I can see where those who have got their ticket are coming from in some respects at least.

But really there is no point in getting upset about not being given a beta invite, it's just the luck of the draw I guess although I would like to have thought that with me having a youtube channel which does flight sim product reviews, they might at least have thought about sending me an invite lol.

Nevertheless, I really mean it when I say that I don't mind people not knowing how to fly an aeroplane who are having a go at doing so, after all, nobody is born knowing how to do that, we all had to learn, and in fact I hope lots of people do want to learn, and there's nobody more than me who would encourage them to do so too. Not forgetting too, that it would be incredibly snobbish and hugely obnoxious of anyone who happens to be able to fly an aeroplane to get snooty about other people's efforts to have a try at it.

What I do think is a problem with it however, is that it doesn't do the product itself any favours, from a promotional standpoint, to have the vast majority of videos of it out there showing it to be all over the place, when much of that is as a result of people who are almost certainly not going to spend money on the thing and only wanted a freebie go at it, who clearly don't really give a toss about aviation.

With regard to pushbacks and other service agent stuff, I'm furloughed at the moment, but normally for Menzies at Manchester EGCC and I was with Aviator at EGCC before that. So that's working on stuff including Air France, KLM, Thomas Cook (no longer), Etihad, SAS, Balkan, Icelandair, Loganair, Aer Lingus, FlyBe (no longer), British Airways, Vueling etc. Prior to doing that, I worked on some other aviation stuff, such as creating the SOP manuals for a few airliners (including the A320), so I'd like to think I do know what I'm talking about with that stuff, but I've no wish to be snobbish about it. It is just something that is useful to know about when people ask about things here on Avsim.

Very sorry to hear about furlough ( this aviation business is ugly sometimes, I've been there) , sometimes EGSS and EGLL, DOH, DXB, AUH, HKG TPE and home. I'm JFK based.

I agree, some of them don't do any justice to the sim. I was inclined to apply for testing but with my hectic schedule and hotel internet is quite impossible.

All the best!

What a drama queen, lol. The guy does his best to show us the new sim but some people think he is giving flight lessons. I bet in your opinion only real world pilots should be entitled to be alpha or beta testers, right? Jeez...

We're trying to grow the market for flight sims. All of the novice gamers jumping on to the sim is a GOOD thing. They're funding our passion. Embrace them as much as possible. Don't throw jargon and 20+ years of simming and flight experience in their face. I know the G1000 is missing a lot of features in the defaults. That's okay for now.

Thank you Alvega so much for the kind words. You are very educated and wise.

Not at an expenditure of one Dollar for a trial run at it, which they then cancel when it doesn't float their boat, they won't be. Which is why it needs to be fairly decent right out of the gate rather than something people end up making excuses for and saying 'it'll be sorted eventually'. The clock is ticking on that, and it's got about six and a half weeks tops. Hopefully the hinted at TPDs which are apparently pretty much ready to go will be something which will help.

There is nothing more guaranteed to kill the buzz of a launch (and kill sales) than something which is unable to match the hype.

There are at last count 10 million game pass subscribers. That $1 adds up really quick at that scale. If MS finds that x number of subscribers signed up for FS2020, that's a huge plus for our hobby. Even if some of them don't stay on for the sim, they might stay on for other games. That's a win for MS.

The only clock that is ticking is for XPlane and P3D.

I don't have a general argument against what you are saying, but as the arguments in this thread are about minor blemishes on the most fantastic clouds I've ever seen in a sim, and diehard flightsim gatekeepers ragging on some youtuber's lack of procedural understanding, I am somewhat dubious that having the sim conform to the desires of Avsim would help keep those new users happy.  So, you're not wrong per se, but I do not believe that the average user will see the problems that the Avsim intelligentsia will.

If this thing is engaging enough to keep a vaguely interested young person here past the realization that flight simming is really an inherently boring activity,  that's a win.  There will be lots of dropouts, The nature of the sim won't allow anything else.  And the sim that WE would create would repel more, I believe, than the sim that Asobo is making.

This is the singular point that I have so far failed to communicate to the galaxy brain part of the Avsim and general flight sim community.

I wouldn't say that you've failed to communicate it.  It's been a topic of conversation before.  There are folks here who don't want anybody or anything new.  there are folks who take simming more seriously than actual pro pilots take simming.  there are folks here that don't want people getting their greasy Grand Theft Auto playing fingers all over their beloved flight sim.  And last but certainly not least, there are folks who either profit from, or are employed due to the status quo.  Not everyone is going to agree.  In my view, though, the flight sim community is moribund, and needs a great big stick to come in and stir things up and make them fresh.  It might be positive, or might not, but the stick is coming Aug. 18.

Flight simming IS inherently boring, but there's something oddly engaging about it.  Same with sailing.  A "vaguely interested" person may discover this.  And if they don't, nothing is lost.

10 million game pass subscribers will not sign up to MSFS they don`t have to they will see it for free when it`s released on the game console, and if you take steam as an example gamers will take a look but most will not stay they tend to play something and move on to the next big title.

I suspect the total sales of FSX is in the millions but the retention rate is low.
