  1. Are you running on low graphics? Ground mesh looks super jaggy (I've seen better on other xp videos)
  2. For what it's worth steam spy shows 1.4 million in sold copies for msfs on steam. I bought my copy on the Microsoft store, I'm not sure what the ratio is The steam reviews have definitely improved their ratings Mostly Positive (77% of 40,678) ALL TIME Very Positive (83% of 966) RECENT They have surpassed xplane 12 review rating Mostly Positive (75% of 525) ALL TIME Mostly Positive (72% of 191) RECENT Xplanes initial influx of sales would probably be from owners of Xplane 11. Once its released out of beta we will see how many MSFS players are keen to run 2 flight sims. Xplane targets Windows, Macs, Linux and Mobile. MSFS targets Windows and Xbox At the end of the day MSFS has opened up flight simming to a more main stream audience. Regardless of which sim you prefer this is great for the hobby and I wish both sims well.
  3. Well to be fair MSFS has had major improvements in performance ,as well as many major scenery updates, major flight model improvements and graphics updates since its release a couple years ago. Yes they have made large performances increases without needing new hardware. It's also transitioned to dx12 and now supports dlss 3.0 - 4k ultra settings with 140fps on the latest gen nvidia card. That's on top of releasing many free default aircraft with updates, as well as partnering with respected 3rd party companies to release there aircraft free as default aircraft on some major updates. And its got built in massively multiplayer - which is still on Austin's road map. This is all being done on one version number.
  4. Im all up for xplane news, but this interview didn't really say much or anything new about the world. It was mostly about the Airbus (which you would think would come up in episode 3 - planes) I was hoping austin would talk about what there plan is for world improvements, new meshes and resolutions, new autogen, world area specific autogen, roads (there was a brief comment on they can do curved roads, but sounds like they're not going to do it?) Railways
  5. There are home cockpits being made using flight simulator Eg Watch "MSFS2020 737 Home Cockpit" on YouTube https://youtu.be/rjVI3eSTwq4
  6. Does anyone know when Austin's presentation is at flight sim expo
  7. Austin does have an untouched userbase of mac and Linux. He has stated before that xplane mobile is driving the revenue. I hope he does not stop developing for desktop. Competition is good, and he is very passionate about xplane. From what I can gather xplane 12 will have a massive graphical upgrade. Most of the autogen is getting redone. Keeping the 3rd party devs on board is very important because that's what drives the longevity of the sim. I think he missed out on the opportunity off having an official xplane store - and take a cut from the sales, as that will drive revenue for the desktop version. Having competing sims is what pushes innovation, rather than stagnation.
  8. I think the issue would have been though is the development tools and the sdk would not have been up to scratch for 3rd parties. During early development there are many major changes and iterations of things. Trying to work with third party developers in this stage would have been a nightmare.
  9. Whilst Austin has been working on the graphical side he has hinted a few times there have been other things in progress and ready to release over the last couple years. As its a jump in version and requiring a rebuy i think the plan would be to make some pretty major improvements
  10. They may be lowest priorities but I would be pretty certain they would have some new planes. New version - a few new default planes would be a must to make sales to the non hard core simmers. Flight simming is about planes and not everybody installs mods etc
  11. Vysnc will try to lock your framerate to your monitor, if you have more than 60fps and your monitor is 60hz it will lock it to 60fps If you fall below 60fps it will half the hz of your monitor, in your case 30fps. This eliminates screen tearing and stutters as your video card would be pushing 50 frames a second and your monitor is outputting 60
  12. I think we will be pleasantly surprised with Xplane 12. We know Lamineer have hired a bunch of artists so obviously autogen is going to be massively improved. While it may not be satellite imagery i think the autogen buildings, roads and airport quality will be on par with msfs autogen. There should be a few new planes, and I think they will improve on the default systems for them (improved default fmc etc) Austin would have played around with MSFS and seen its visual strengths. So I would think the bland atmosphere will be gone, volumetric clouds will be in, smooth weather transitions and better wind modelling. I will buy xplane 12 regardless of its improvements. At the moment I've gone off 11 because to me the graphics seem bland, and when creating orthos ive struggled to get the roads and buildings looking correctly As fun as helis are in vr, I also like good scenery when heli flying. I think xplane 12 will be a major leap in visual quality. Aerodynamics and systems don't really need much improvement
  13. Exactly. Unreal engine is not designed for an earth scale world with a zoom level to 100000 feet. The problem with a ready made game engine (unreal, unity etc) is they carry a lot of bloat. And you will never get the efficiency of earth scale world rendering as a custom engine.
