August 5, 20205 yr Hi, I read from time to time that AMD chips operate rather instable compared to Intel. A friend of mine said that AMD is rather for people who like to experiment like linux users. Is this statement still true in 2020? Will you get headache when buying a AMD system compared to Intel?
August 5, 20205 yr I am having no problems what so ever with my AMD 3900x. That sounds like nonsense IMHO. I've had my computer on for days on end sometimes stressing it quite alot. No hitches or crashes or anything. Rock stable. Richard 7950x3d | 32Gb 6000mHz RAM | 8Tb NVme | RTX 4090 | MSFS | P3D | XP12

Intel user here (9700K) -- but your friend is talking out of his "A$$".... I am also looking at a Ryzen CPU next go around especially since the Threadrippers have so many direct PCIe gen 4 lanes direct connected to CPU and double the memory controllers... Les O'Reilly

August 7, 20205 yr Author I think he was refering rather to the motherboards..., but I don't know...had AMD stability issues in the past?
August 7, 20205 yr AMD chipsets in the past (before zen) were not very well supported by board manufacturers and often lacked the quality, materials, and workmanship of concurrent Intel offerings. That is no longer the case. Board manufacturers like Asus, Asroc, Gigabyte and MSI now offer premium boards with tested and robust components and excellent power delivery and regulation making them and the the systems in general incredibly stable. So... On 8/5/2020 at 1:43 AM, 737_800 said: Is this statement still true in 2020? Absolutely not. Jose A. August 8, 20205 yr Author Is there already a hint, if AMD works better with the FS2020? I read various reviews and it's kind of contradictory. I want to use my new system besides flightsim for video editing. Some of the reviews say that AMD 3900X compared to i9 10900 is better for video editing, because of more cores, others claim that adobe premiere works better with intel chipset. Quite confusing. What to believe?

My first build was an AMD 386 in the 90s. Back then their chips were more buggy than Intel's. What the OP is hearing from his friend is an old reputation. Back then to buy an AMD CPU meant you were a nerdy linux type. Bleeding edge sort of thing. The AMD 386 was a clone pin for pin of the Intel 386. They dont do that anymore. They do their own designs. The 386 was their 2nd CPU after their 286, which was also buggy. I know because my buddy built a system with that chip. Could be we just didnt know what we were doing, which is also true. If it used to be true almost 30 years ago is totally irrelevant today. Implying to a person thinking about getting a new AMD system that it in any way are more prone to instability compared to Intel is utter rubbish. Pure and simple. August 22, 20205 yr Author However, when I read some other forums AMD has still driver issues with their GPUs. So they still have a weakness with their grafic cards. What I don't understand. Why is it so hard to fix that? They loose many potential customers.
