October 24, 200619 yr Man, am I having a good time with FS and the Baron with the G1000! :) Here I am, above Norway, on my way to Bergen. Just look at the beatiful sight (the cockpit AND the panorama!).http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/JvanE/G1006.jpgIt's getting dark, but I'm loving it.http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/JvanE/G1007.jpgAlmost there: ATC told me which runway to land on. ILS is setup. Great.... er.. not... Why is that arrow pointing at the wrong direction...???http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/JvanE/G1009.jpgLet's doublecheck the ILS-frequency... Yes, it's right... Weird... http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/JvanE/G1008.jpgLet's see what happens. Ah, that's nice: the Baron is lining up alright. (Anyone know's why that arrow is pointing at the wrong direction...?)http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/JvanE/G1011.jpgGetting closer...http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/JvanE/G1012.jpgAlmost there...http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/JvanE/G1013.jpgRight, there we are. Let's get of the runway asap and find a gate with some coffee nearby...http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/JvanE/G1014.jpgI have to say I'm really happy with FS X! It's awesome! I'm even getting used to the mouse look with space. But this G1000 sure is a great toy with enough options to keep me happy! :) I also started to enter all frequencies manually: makes it even more realistic. And I'm sure fps will get better in the coming years. ;)
October 25, 200619 yr Yes, it does, but I couldn't care less, to tell you the truth. I like it and I've already passed the point where fps matters. ;) When I'm flying with the G1000 I'm having a good time and I do not pay attention to fps. Everything works and is looking good and that's good enough for me. I do however have to say landing is a bit hard on my old system because that is the moment fps is important and that is also the moment fps seems to drop even more. But I've never had an crash or anything so you won't hear me complaining.I must be one of the few simmers that don't care too much about below 10 fps as long as everything is working good and looking great. ;) Okay, panning around the VC isn't smooth and I would like it to be better of course, but I'm sure that will be fixed when I buy a new computer (next year, Vista/DX10), so... ;)I can't tell you how much fps it costs to use the G1000: just give it a try, I'd say!
October 25, 200619 yr the G1000 is definitely lots of fun. you should check out the Innsbruck DME Approach mission...baron 58 + G1000 + bad weather + mountains = lots of fun :)
October 25, 200619 yr Author Jan ?I don't have the FSX yet. Is the G1000 standard with it or is it an addon ? Roger See my specs in my profile
October 25, 200619 yr The G1000 comes with the Deluxe version of FSX. It's not included in the Standard version.
October 25, 200619 yr But imho it sure is worth the extra money for the Deluxe version. Heck, the G1000 is almost worth the complete FS X price! ;) There is a seperate G1000 available from Mindstar that costs 50 bucks, which is 13 dollar less than what I've paid for FS X, so... go figure what else I got for the extra 13 bucks! ;) Yes, I know, that Mindstar version is supposed to simulate a lot more, but not in it's current state: I checked it out and too many things don't work yet or clash with FS (2004 btw) in a way that's I really can't use (like with the flightplanner). In the upcoming patch (where they have been working on since july) they added OBS and Direct-To on the MFD, which are already functioning on the FS version, so... Nonetheless, I'll keep an eye on the Mindstar site: you never know where they end up in a few months/years from now. ;) It's a big ambitious project, so... But then again, it's got so many option I will never use that I wonder if it's worth the purchase for me.
October 25, 200619 yr Author Janne,Thank you. I do intent to buy the de luxe version but not before next sumer. I also need a more powefull PC with the Vista soft. So I wait and look what is happening with the FSX. Lot of whining but that is always like that with a new version of FS. Roger See my specs in my profile
October 29, 200619 yr Commercial Member The Mindstar version has all the flight planning built in, especially in the new beta version, so the FS flight planner is not really necessary.
October 29, 200619 yr Even worse: the FS flight planner is a no go, because it clashes with the Mindstar G1000! So that means you can't use it with FS ATC then (that is, you can't file a flight plan). And since I never fly online (no time) that's reason enough not to buy it.
October 29, 200619 yr Moderator >Let's see what happens. Ah, that's nice: the Baron is lining>up alright. (Anyone know's why that arrow is pointing at the>wrong direction...?)That's because, just like any other HSI or EHSI, you have to manually set the CRS pointer to align with the runway heading! If you are cleared for runway 24, then you'd want to set the CRS pointer to 240 Fr. But, I'm sure that someone who doesn't actually have the product must know something that users don't... :-eek Fr.
