August 16, 20205 yr I can't prove it to you because of the NDA, but I've seen comparison shots between Grippersim's Bugalaga video (22:54 is a good view) using the release version vs. what the trees look like with the same view in the beta and it's night and day. There are some public preview shots of Bugalaga out there before the release version was given out you might be able to hunt down. I'm not just talking about hand-fixed trees around the airport, but miles into the distance on the peaks of the mountains and in the valleys the trees look to be about half the height and half the overall width, maybe even smaller in some cases, i.e. like they were shrunk by some global parameter. With the smaller size and better coloring, the mesh is also much more defined. I can't confirm if this is a global change, but it wouldn't make much sense for them to hand-fix a random valley 10 miles off from the airport in the middle of nowhere. I've uninstalled the beta in preparation for release, so I can't go do comparisons with some of the other release candidate videos. But there is hope. Edited August 16, 20205 yr by bonchie

I’ve seen those shots and it seems way better indeed. But, according to Martial, on their last official stream, It’s more complex than that. They have a lot of parameters, like minimum and maximum sizes of each species of trees. And those trees are geographically placed based on botanical data. Like others have said already all over the forum, we should just calm down, wait for the release and report things that aren’t right, with as much evidence as possible, like in the case of the tree sizes, providing them real pictures of the area would help a lot. I would be happy if they focused on fixing tree size issues around airports/airfields first. This is the most annoying part of the problem right now (IMO). 9800X3D@H150i // Msi RTX 5090 Trio OC // 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 // 2TB + 1TB Nvme Dell 27" 2127DGF - 1440p - Gsync - 165hz Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel

Yes, there are multiple parameters for each tree type, but it can still be controlled globally per species and doesn't have to be hand-fixed. If you are in the beta forum, there's a post talking about the xml files involved but I'll stop there. It may take time for them to tweet all the different species. I don't think they can just fix it around airfields. Probably easier to change it at the macro level than to hand fix thousands of airports.

Sure, you are probably right, it would be impossible to fix manually that. I just think they will try to avoid creating new “issues” if they just change settings globally, that’s my guess based on Martial’s answer. Like the watermasks, they have to assess specific cases. That said, I’m confident they will find a way. 9800X3D@H150i // Msi RTX 5090 Trio OC // 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 // 2TB + 1TB Nvme Dell 27" 2127DGF - 1440p - Gsync - 165hz Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel

Pine trees seem to be topping out at about 100 feet now in the PNW when they were 200+ feet before. He took off from Sequim Valley and flew low level so you could see the comparisons with the houses really clearly. I think they've made some global changes.
August 16, 20205 yr Can we just take a minute and appreciate what Asobo has done with trees. Many many different species and sizes and a very impressive go at placing these different species around the entire world based on botanical data. When we compare to what we have in current sims (2d cardboard cutouts of a few different tree types) this is amazing Edited August 16, 20205 yr by Theboot100
August 16, 20205 yr I have it on good authority that the Aug.18th release will feature a worldwide fix of the problem: No tree will ever be taller than 6 feet. 😏 Edited August 16, 20205 yr by overspeed3

I think they've made some global changes. well in the PNW, where the Sitka spruce can grow to be 200-300 ft, not sure that's entirely realistic, but I do understand the scope and nature of what they're dealing with. If they were ALL 200 ft before, that would have been incorrect too.

But the 250 foot pine trees were not realistic and trees that aren't quite tall enough are far preferable to being too tall for practical reasons. Edited August 16, 20205 yr by bonchie
August 16, 20205 yr Commercial Member This is great news to hear that Asobo might have properly sized the trees in a macro sense. I have been looking at the files that are related to tree size and I will say that when the sim is released I would imagine that there will be files to make adjustments in both a macro sense and in a more regional sense. I don't know for sure as I do not have the release version, but I am just giving a fairly educated opinion. We shall see. REX AccuSeason Developer REX Simulations
