August 19, 20205 yr So, after the longest work day in history I made it home, popped in the extra 16gb of RAM and downloaded/installed MSFS2020. The download went perfect (total time 1hr 40min) with no hiccups and so did the install. I was terrified that I would have some of the issues I've been reading about all day. Sim decided that High settings were perfect for my computer. So I loaded up my local airport and took off. I had a weird bug where all the instruments quick working shortly after takeoff. Airspeed indicator didn't move, none of the needles did anything. Restarted the entire program and it worked fine. This happened two other times during my test flights. I did notice stuttering, even around my home town which is fairly small. Once I hit a stutter patch I didn't have it again though, was like it was a one time deal. Right now I have assist set to medium. One thing I am noticing is the sensitivity most folks are talking about. For me it has been with the elevator trim....I trim, think I'm good and I play needle bounce when I thought I had it nice and trimmed up. It also seems like I don't need to pull back on the stick much to climb, I believe that the T16000 M place my sensitivity at -50. I can also tell I will need to add a bit more to the rocker switch I use for the rudders, its set to -40 but I may go 50 or even 60. Found a missing airport, KSBO....should have been right near Robin AFB but was no where in site. Ill have to report that I guess. Its in bing satellite imagery too. So very weird. Anyway, gonna take some getting used to thats for sure. Simulator is beautiful! Even my home town area looks really nice.
August 19, 20205 yr You've got the right attitude. There are some struggling to get controls set, some stuttering issues reported, IFR and VFR anomalies but having simmed (not just flight sim) since the Apple IIE was a hot ticket, I'm confident this sim will be the future of flight sim for many years to come. August 19, 20205 yr Author So, is the trim that fiddly in real aircraft? I notice it moved quickly if I hold down the shortcut key and made the nose of my plane bob up and down a bit. Other sims really don't do this and I've never flown are real plane in my life. With Xplane, its tap to trim and done. I forgot my specs in the first post - was tired after that long day at work, here they are: i7 7700, 32gb RAM, GTX 1080 and resolution 1080P
August 19, 20205 yr Lotharen - thanks for the write up. Around 3pm, my wife messaged me and said "this is like a kid waking up on Christmas for you, isn't it?". To say I've been excited is an understatement. I built my first gaming rig for this (I've built more modest PCs before). Steam didn't auto download the client, so I had to kick that off at 5am, stayed up to then start the download of the entire game. I went to work and then read about how it didn't go well for so many people - when I got home and saw it actually downloaded I was rather happy. Had to do the update and was good to go (and NVIDIA driver update). System picked High for me - ran (2) 24" 1080p monitors as one ultrawide in NVIDIA surround. I had an absolute blast! Running a Logitech Pro yoke and throttles (Saitek Rudders were delayed and will be here tomorrow). Like many, it took me around 8 minutes to release the parking brake in the 172 the first go around. I haven't simmed since probably 2006 with FS2004. I've not been a xplane or whatever the other one is person. Rightly or wrongly, I've been MSFS or bust.I think it is pretty awesome. My only big question is similar to yours I think - I've never flown but the nose on pretty much all aircraft really wants to go up, and I feel like no amount of trim will keep it level. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? Just wasn't a behavior that i was expecting - doesn't mean that it isn't appropriate. Lastly - I'm seeing 55-70 FPS pretty steadily - no big issues at all. i7-10700k (OC at 5.05MHz) | EVGA 3090 FTW3 (24GB) | G.Skill RipJaws V Series 32GB RAM (Effective 3200MHz) | 1TB SSD M2 (Samsung EVO) | Corsair 850W Gold P/S | MSI MAG CoreLiquid 240R | MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Edge WiFi | Logitech Yoke and Throttle Quad | Logitech Saitek Rudders | Logitech Switch Panel | Thrustmaster T.Flight 4 HOTAS | HyperX Cloud Flight S Headset | 43” LG 43UN700B 4k monitor | HP Reverb G2 (VR) Selling EVGA 2080 Super Ultra XC (8GB) - used for 3.5 months - PM me for info if interested! August 19, 20205 yr This is nice to hear! Pretty much same initial experience my end (except for the download time, more like 6 hours for me!). August 19, 20205 yr Author Okay, day two of trying the sim out. This one went much better. I guess a bit of sleep will help you focus lol. I flew from KNOP to KSBO, KSBO WAS in the sim. What I didn't realize is that it only finds the airports in search when typed in Caps, a bit silly there. I had none of the stutters like last night and it was a joy to fly. Even made a half way decent landing even if it was a bit hard. Several things I did notice. If you have multiple monitors and your mouse moves over to the other screen it will make things not work lol. Found this out several times because I undocked the VFR map and slid it over. The other thing I'm having trouble with and I know this is only teething because its a new sim was getting a hang of those darn views. Me and the drone camera had words....it won, for now! A few things I noticed were buildings that the AI did not pick up and make 3D, most were large monstrosities but weird it didn't generate the building. Not sure if its worth reporting that or not. One thing I hate so far is the Nav Log, while it tells you your waypoints it doesn't give you anything like frequencies or altitude, bit frustrating really. Hopefully they will fix that. Also, not having a good airport diagram did not help. I need to figure a place to get those so when I fly I can have it pulled up. All-in-all it was a wonderful first flight from start to finish and I can't wait to continue it later today when I leave from KSBO to KSAV. The virtual beach is calling lol. Safe flying everyone!
