October 28, 200619 yr Had FSX for a few days and have a second monitor which I usually use for my radios,GPS etc. this worked fine with FS9 but with FSX it does not. I Open the item, undock it and move it to the second monitor but then the radio or whatever quits working and if I try to rsize it the window turns black. If I move back to the primary monitor everything works again. I went to the help files and followed instructions but still no joy, but I did notice if I move the help window over I can use that.I have no problems with any other programs using two monitors. Thanks for any help.GaryA8n-SLI Deluxe Motherboard, 1 gig ram, AMD Athlon 64 3700 Processor, ASUS Extreme AX800XL 256 mb vidio Card.
October 28, 200619 yr Are your resolutions on monitor 1 and 2 (desktop settings) the same as your full screen settings for monitor 1 and 2 in MSFSX, display settings tab?I have had my second monitors displayed items go dark for several seconds then they refreshed some time ago.Are you undocking and dragging items to the second monitor in 2D mode or are you dragging them in full screen mode? Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
October 28, 200619 yr I have both monitors sset to 1024X768 that is also what FSX is set to.I have tried moving both the radio and GPS in 2D and full sreen and niether work. Thanks.Gary
October 28, 200619 yr Try this. When the second monitor (like radio) goes dark.Click the 2D icon (like for the radio stack) to turn it off. Then click the radio icon again and see if the radio appears again correctly on the second monitor.Edit:Are you using an FX default aircraft like the Baron 58?On one saved and reload flight my gps was locked up on the second monitor.I deleted the flight, reload the Baron58 and all was ok again. October 28, 200619 yr OK First---I am using all defalt a/cI tried your first suggestion but the only way the radio will come bake is to move it back to the main screen, then I can move it back.next--- I restarted the program "again" and went ot the beech 58 and when it came up in 2D the secondary screen came up all black, I moved the radio stack over and everything worked as did the GPS and all view worked. After changing views a couple of times the screen lite up again and everything stell worked. I brought up the 172 and everything stell worked.I restarted the program with the 172 and nothing worked so I restarted again with the Beech and everything worked but I went to change views and the bottom part of my main screen went black and I had to restart again. This has happened before where I get strange things happen when changing views. MemStatus shows 895/115mb I have not been shutting everything down each time I have been restarting and have another gig of ram comming on Monday. Also another thing I have now is a Number in the upper right hand corner of both screens it is yellow and changes to red at times and varies from low teens to a high of about 36. It is not the zoom factor numbers.Thank you for your help, I will be away from the computer until tomorrow morning.Gary
October 28, 200619 yr Having read the various reply's suggesting some different "work-arounds" - may I make the observation that the product has quite probably NOT been tested to destruction - let me expand upon that hypothesis - a great number of the BETA test team would have been too busy saying "Golly, Gee, Wow - isnt this fantastic" to even bother testing some of the various configurations that "Us Idiots" might even tryThen again the "process" of BETA TESTING cannot even get close to any "real world scenario" - and even IF it did there are still the dreaded BEANCOUNTERS that will order that "so what - too hard - just release it" - after all you have to realise that the "company" NEEDS money to fund its lawyers to fight all the various lawsuits against it in all sorts of countries that DO NOT follow the US ruling that they are "not a Predator"
October 28, 200619 yr OK,You are almost there now. When the bottom part of the main screen goes black just LEFT CLICK the mouse on the bottom part and it should come back.At that time check to see if in 2D cockpit. If not, go to 2D to test the displays.More memory will help also.During your testing it might not hurt to start from the begining loading the aircraft etc.... Do not load a saved flight during testing. That way any changes you made will be applied to the new test setup. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
October 28, 200619 yr As a primary monitor I use a 19" one, set to a resolution of 1280*1024. Same as the resolution in FSX.My second monitor is only a 15" one and set to its highest resolution, 1024*768.In FS2004 I never had problems to display things like radios, GPS or FSNavigator on the second monitor. In FSX the screen goes black when I move things over to the second monitor. So I have the same problems as the original poster. It is very annoying to see 'simple' things not working anymore. October 28, 200619 yr Author Don't know if this is the cause, but thought I'd mention that if you're using ATI, they have had some driver issues with dual monitors in some of the latest cat's (6.1 thru the 6.8's.). Might be worth trying a different version? I am using the 6.9's w/o a problem but with FS9. Why not apply to be a beta tester for the next version? Only then will you learn "the truth..." ;):-lol Fr. October 29, 200619 yr Unfortunately, I'm still waiting on my FSX preorder, so in the meantime I'm keeping up with the tweaks and planning for FSX. I have a second Dell CRT monitor available at the moment and was thinking that I might try to use it to display the gps, radio stacks, etc.I've searched the forum and found a thread or two such as this one, but although I've used FS from the beginning, I've never tried a second monitor and have no clue how to start. Is there somewhere I could go to get the basics? Also, is the process enough similar in fs9 that if I try to get it running in fs9 that this would easily transfer to FSX?Also, I have a GeForce 6800 SLI set-up (two cards -- see system specs below), if that affects how I should configure the set-up. Thanks in advance for any help.Steve JKHEFBasic System Specs: Dell XPS 600 Gen5 P4 650 3.4GHz (800FSB) w/HT 2MB Cache, 1 GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM @ 667MHz, Dual 256MB PCI Expressx16 GeForce 6800 in SLI w/.9147 drivers 1280x1024/32/85Hz, 250GB Serial ATA HD (7200rpm) 72% free, SB Audigy 2 ZS, Windows XP Media Ed SP2, DirectX 9.0c, Viewsonic A95f 19in, CHProducts Yoke and Pedals, O&O Defrag (Name), PC Pitstop Optimize.
October 29, 200619 yr Hi Steve,I have a Dell system also. The Dell manual has a nice write up on how to connect a 2nd monitor. In my case I had to purchase an adapter ($5) to hook up to the second port on my video card.Your video card may not need it so you have to read up on it.If both your monitors are CRT and your video card had two VGA ports you will not need an adapter. Then all you have to do is set up your windows desktop ( right click) to specify the specs for each of your monitors ... that's it.Good luck with FX and the 2 monitors ... It's great! Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
October 29, 200619 yr I use 2 19inch monitors with a ATI X740XL.With FS9 no problems at all and no influence of the framerates when i added the 2nd screen. Now with FSX the both displays are okay, but....the Framerates are dropped DOWN to a third when i start using the 2nd sreen. Can anybody please explain the reason why? Thanks in advancebyeBert
October 29, 200619 yr To have any undocked 2d panel work on the 2nd monitor, you have to left click your mouse on that panel when it is on the 2nd monitor.Bill
October 29, 200619 yr Thanks, Vaughan, for the info.I read the info in my Dell XPS owners manual, and also searched for info in the NVidia 6800 help section. I may give the second monitor a try, but the other post in this thread concerns me that a second monitor in FSX may cut fps? And also, I will not be able to use both 6800s in SLI, if that later proves to have any advantages in fsx. Before I can try the second Dell CRT monitor in fs9, I need to get a DVI to VGA adapter. In looking for at the 6800 display properties, I have two questions:1) Do you use the "clone," "span," or "dual view" mode in order to put gps and radio stack windows on the second monitor.2) And lastly (and I'm sure this will sound pretty basic), how do you switch your mouse over to function on the second monitor? Do you right click and select something from a menu or what? Thanks for answering these basic questions.Steve J.KHEF
